Intel officially launched the fourth generation of Intel Xeon scalable processors (codenamed “Sapphire Rapids”) to global data center customers on January 10 this year.

Intel’s latest data shows that only eight weeks after the product launch, the number of processor designs using the product set a historical record for the Intel Xeon series, and the number of available platforms and shipped platforms also hit a new high.

Intel said most mainstream OEMs and ODMs are now shipping system designs based on the fourth-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, and the top 10 cloud service providers will also deploy cloud instances based on the product this year.

Intel officials that Sapphire Rapids is Intel’s first Chiplet-based design of Xeon processors, including 52 CPUs, supporting up to 60 cores, manufactured using Intel’s 7 process, also supports PCIe 5.0, DDR5 memory and CXL 1.1 interface, providing up to 80 PCIe 5.0 channels, supporting up to Up to 80 PCIe 5.0 lanes, up to 1.5TB of DDR5-4800 memory, and a TDP of up to 350W.

Kingston today announced that its 64GB, 32GB and 16GB Server Premier DDR5 4800MT / s Registered DIMM (RDIMM) has been validated in the fourth generation of Intel Xeon Scalable processors.

For over 35 years, Kingston has been the leading server manufacturer and trusted memory brand for the world’s largest data centers, officials say. ServerPremier is Kingston’s industry-standard memory solution, sold to specification, for white-box servers, and platform verified and qualified by leading motherboard/system manufacturers. All Kingston server memory solutions are 100% tested and undergo a rigorous dynamic aging process to catch factory early failures.

The fourth-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors are the first to support next-generation DDR5 server-class memory with eight memory channels and up to two DIMMs per channel, or 16 DIMMs per CPU slot. At 4800MT/s, each DDR5 Registered DIMM delivers 38.4GB/s of peak bandwidth, a significant performance improvement over DDR4-based servers when grouped in a multi-channel configuration.

Intel officially released the fourth generation of Xeon Scalable Processors (codename Sapphire Rapids) and Xeon CPU Max series (codename Sapphire Rapids HBM) on January 11, containing 52 CPUs supporting up to 60 cores, manufactured using Intel 7 process, and supporting PCIe 5.0, DDR5 memory and CXL 1.1 interfaces (type 1 and 2 devices). It also supports PCIe 5.0, DDR5 memory and CXL 1.1 interfaces (type 1 and 2 devices), offering up to 80 PCIe 5.0 lanes, up to 1.5TB of DDR5-4800 memory, and up to 350W TDP.
