Insta360 has just launched a 4K webcam designed for hybrid offices (like Zoom video conference calls) and streaming content creators: the Insta360 Link, which incorporates a tripod and an AI element that keeps the user at the center of the frame. Company founder JK Liu said Insta360 Link is the latest natural evolution in its mission to “help people share their lives.

JK Liu noted that the COVID pandemic has moved work to the homes of countless people at an unprecedented rate.

During this time, Insta360 saw a new opportunity to leverage the company’s expertise in AI image processing to help people work better from home.

And Insta360 Link’s ultra-precise AI tracking algorithms and advanced imaging hardware are making remote communication more intuitive than ever before.

In addition to being placed on a tripod with greater positioning freedom, the Insta360 Link comes with a screen clamp to secure it to the top of a monitor or laptop display.

In terms of camera specifications, the Insta360 Link features an f/1.8 aperture @ 1/2 inch sensor, capable of 4K @ 30fps or 720 / 1080p @ 60fps video transmission.

It is worth mentioning that Insta360 Link also supports a wide dynamic range (HDR). However, in this mode, it only has to deliver a lower frame rate of 24 / 25 / 30 fps at 720 / 1080p resolution.

Combined with the relatively large sensor and ISO 100-3200 sensitivity range, the Insta360 Link still offers good clarity even in low-light conditions.

In addition, the Insta360 Link is capable of maintaining a sharp image of the subject within the nearest 4 inches (10 cm) through a fast phase-detection autofocus (PDAF) scheme.

Shutter speeds range from 1/8000 – 1/30 second, and users can freely set parameters such as brightness, exposure, and white balance via the accompanying controller software.

In terms of compatibility, Insta360 Link is officially claimed to work seamlessly with popular video conferencing applications such as Zoom, Microsoft Team and Google Meet on Windows / macOS platforms.

It is worth mentioning that Insta360 Link does not rely on AI software from manufacturers such as Dell / Apple, but rather uses a 3-axis gimbal lens / its own AI algorithm to track the subject.

Combined with an automatic digital zoom of up to 4x, users are better able to ensure that they are always in the frame at full resolution.

And the system responds to simple gestures to activate AI tracking, zoom and other camera modes in a non-contact manner.

Insta360 Link also offers a number of dedicated modes designed to improve video communication, including one that quickly switches between the focused user and desktop area views.

In addition, the tripod supports a number of useful operations, including a streaming uncropped 9:16 view for mobile devices, as well as the ability to clearly zoom in and adjust the formulation of the whiteboard.

Also important to remote teams and streaming viewers is audio clarity, so the Insta360 Link is equipped with dual noise-canceling microphones with auto gain and anti-reverb capabilities.

Finally, the Insta360 Link has a body size of 2.71 x 1.61 x 1.77 inches (69 x 41 x 45 mm) and weighs 3.73 ounces (106 grams).

The Insta360 Link webcam costs $299.99 when purchased alone, or $328.99 with the mini tripod set.
