]]> With the help of an enthusiastic fan community, Insignia, the unofficial Xbox Live 1.0 service, went live today with 25 games. Insignia is a free service for the first-generation Xbox game console that replicates Xbox Live 1.0 and offers the same features, including online multiplayer.

Insignia is still in beta and is currently by invitation only, with a membership size of a few thousand. Interested parties can register on the Insignia website and wait for an invitation.

The Insignia service is currently compatible with 25 games, including MechAssault, Phantasy Star Online Episodes I & II, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and more. Insignia’s website says it intends to eventually support the entire Xbox game library.
