The PC version of Google Play Games has continued to expand its game lineup since its open beta in January 2022, and now has more than 3,000 games. In recent updates, controller support has been added to some games.

Part of the blog post is as follows:

Controllers can make computer gaming easier and more fun. We are rolling out console controller support for some games so players can enjoy a more immersive gaming experience.

For games like Asphalt 9 Legends and BADLAND, we’ve added support for Xbox Series S|X, Xbox One, PS5 DualSense or PS4 DualShock gamepads.

The new version of Play Games also has enhanced search capabilities:

A big request from our players was for an easier way to search in Google Play Games. That's why we recently launched a search feature to help you find what you're looking for quickly and easily. In the "All Games" section, navigate to the search bar at the top and enter the game you're looking for.

Attached the requirements for running the PC version of Play Games as follows:

System: Win10 Version 2004 and higher

Storage: Solid-state drive (SSD) with at least 10 GB of available storage

Graphics card: Intel UHD Graphics 630 GPU or equivalent

 Processor: 4 CPU physical cores

 Memory: 8GB

 Windows administrator account

 Hardware virtualization must be enabled

Google officially announced that in order to further strengthen the protection of user privacy and enhance the multi-platform gaming experience, Google Play Game Service will soon launch a new generation of player IDs.

Google says that after that, every time a user logs into a game for the first time, they will be assigned a unique Next Generation Gamer ID, which will remain consistent regardless of the device or platform they log into a game on, but will not be the same across games. The new generation ID will only be assigned to users who are logging into PGS for the first time in a game; existing users or accounts that are already logging into games using PGS will not be affected by this change.

Google said it will also introduce “developer player keys” that can identify users across games to allow developers with multiple games to provide users with a cross-game experience.

With the new generation of IDs, all accounts will have better support for Google Play Games services (including those under parental supervision).

Newly created game projects will be able to enable the New Generation ID in draft mode on April 15, 2023; in February 2024, the New Generation ID will be available for all game projects; and in March 2024, the New Generation ID will be mandatory for all game projects and cannot be deactivated.

Google enabled a new icon for the service when it launched Play Games for PC. Google has now updated Play Games for Android, following up with a new version of the icon.

Google Play Music has been replaced by YouTube Music, Play Newsstand has become Google News, and Play Movies is now Google TV. Among the Play family of apps, there are now only Play Books and Play Games, as well as the Play Store.

Google introduced a new flat, unshaded icon when it previewed Play Games for PC in 2021. When Google officially launched Play Games for PC last year, it enabled a new version of the icon, which can be seen with the gamepad placed inside a triangle.

The icon is now available on Android version 2023.01.40470. It is, of course, placed in a white circle. Users see it in the app launcher and at the top of the Home tab. No other changes have been noticed in the new version yet.

Google Play Games is a PC program developed by Google that enables you to play mobile games on your PC. Google launched an initial beta version of the software on Windows PCs earlier this year, but it was limited to Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan. Today Google announced the expansion of the beta service to the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore.

Google Play Games is currently playable with 85 games including Air Force 1945, Blade Idle, Cookie Run: Kingdom, Evony: The King’s Return, and more. The app even supports synchronizing game progress between PC and mobile devices, so players can continue playing on different platforms.

“We’re excited to expand our platform to more markets and let players enjoy their favorite games on Google Play, said Arjun Dayal, director of games at Google Play, As we move toward a full release, we’ll continue to add new features and evaluate feedback from developers and players.”

Google Play Games is a departure from what Microsoft has been doing to bring Android apps to Windows 11. Microsoft has partnered with Amazon to offer games and apps from the Amazon Appstore in its latest Windows 11 operating system. Microsoft built an underlying Windows subsystem for Android in Windows 11, but Google is creating its own separate app to bring its Google Play Android games to the PC.
