Following the launch of QPR2, Google today pushed Android 13 QPR3 Beta 1 to Pixel phones.

Android 13 QPR3 will be released to consumers in June and will be the last major quarterly update to Android 13. Google has previously hinted that it won’t be testing QPR3 publicly, but will instead upgrade directly from Android 13 QPR2 Beta to Android 14 Beta.

Unlike the Developer Preview and Beta versions of unreleased Android releases, these versions are for general use.

For users in the current Android Beta program, QPR3 may only be available in a Beta version, as Google says the preview will “continue until Android 14 Beta begins. Android 14 Beta 1 is expected to be released in April.

If users participate in the QPR3 Beta, they will automatically receive an over-the-air (OTA) update when Android 14 Beta 1 becomes available. There is no separate program to opt-in.

If users have opted in to the Beta program for QPR2, they will receive QPR3 immediately without performing any action. however, if users want to fall back without wiping device data, they can opt out and wait for the stable March (QPR2) update by ignoring QPR3 Beta 1.

Important fixes.

Fixes an issue with the wrong color of the clock text on the lock screen.

Fixes an issue with Bluetooth audio not working properly on some devices.

Fixes an issue where the fingerprint icon that is normally displayed on the screen to indicate the location of the fingerprint sensor was incorrectly changed to an exclamation mark (!) issue.

Fixes an issue where dynamic wallpapers could not be selected or used.

Fixes an issue that reset the widget, app icon position, and other configurable options on the home screen after installing an OTA update.

Fixes an issue that caused the device to unregister from Face Unlock after installing an OTA update.

The following known issues exist.

The camera displays a black screen if the user tries to turn on the camera by pressing the power button twice.

In some cases, the device will reboot when a working profile is turned on or off.

The “Recently Used Apps” list sometimes becomes unresponsive if the screen orientation is changed while the list is open.

In addition to this.

Android 13 QPR3 Beta 1 (version number T3B1.230224.005) includes updates from the latest public March Feature Drop release as well as other features, bug fixes and performance optimizations.

The Android 13 QPR3 Beta 1 system image is available for Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, as well as in the Android emulator.

Most users will have Beta 1 (T3B1.230224.005) installed as well as the March security patch from the Android Beta Program website.

Google started testing 5G support for Pixel phones in India with the Android 13 QPR Beta 2 update in January this year. With the success of the Beta test, Google is now rolling out the March Pixel feature update, which brings various fixes in addition to 5G network support for India.

This update enables the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 6a to connect to Jio and Airtel’s 5G network. Once installed, 5G will be automatically enabled (you should see “5G” in the status bar once the phone is connected to the network).

How to activate 5G on Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro or Pixel 6a:

Go to Settings on your Pixel phone.

Click Network and Internet.

Select a 5G-enabled SIM card and click Network Preferences.

Three options will then be shown – 5G, LTE and 3G. Click to select 5G.

After a few seconds, you will be able to use 5G service on your Pixel phone.

Other features in the March feature update include support for faster Night Sight shots on the Pixel 7 series phones, Health Connect, fall detection for the Pixel Watch, and some features enabled on older models.

One of the more interesting changes is that users can enable two eSIMs at the same time on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. However, this is only available for some operators and it has not been confirmed whether Jio India and Airtel are among them.

Google did not launch a new Pixel Feature Drop today, but details about the March 2023 update have been exposed.

Similar to the Pixel Feature Drop released in December last year, this update also applies to Pixel phones and watches. On the Pixel Watch side, this update focuses on fall detection, which is now rolling out via a server-side update, and users got the update last Friday.

After the Pixel Watch detects that the wearer has fallen, if the wearer does not respond within 30 seconds, the Pixel Watch will vibrate, sound an alarm and display an on-screen notification to check that the user is OK.

An on-screen notification asks the wearer to tap either “I’m OK” or “I fell & need help,” depending on their situation. If the latter is chosen, emergency services will be called for assistance.

If the user still does not interact with the interface, the watch alarm will continue to sound for one minute, getting louder each time. If there is no response, emergency services will be called automatically.

This Pixel Feature Drop did not bring too many new features to Pixel phones. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro models have received the Night Sight function, which is supported by the Google Tensor chip to optimize the camera’s shooting speed and quality in low-light environments.

Improved before and after comparison for Real Tone and Night Sight
Both the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro models speed up Night Sight even further, requiring half the normal exposure time to produce beautiful low-light images that are clearer than before.

Pixel 4a and Pixel 5a models are getting Direct My Call.

Another notable improvement is that after installing this update, Pixel phones will come with the Health Connect app pre-installed.

Google said Apple also only recently updated its iPhone phone system to support 5G networks in India, as did Samsung. Nonetheless, the search giant is still a bit behind schedule.

In an official statement, Google promised to roll out a 5G-enabled OTA update sometime in the first quarter of 2023. The initial timeline was last December, but Google apparently jumped the gun.

In the statement, Google said it is working closely with Indian operators to enable next-generation connectivity and comply with local regulations and standards. Xiaomi is also working on the update, and it has a number of 5G-enabled phones in India.

While Google launched the January security update, it also launched the January Pixel Feature Drop for the Pixel 6/7 series models, providing spatial audio support for eligible headphones.

 Spatial Audio

Spatial audio, popularized by Apple’s AirPods Pro, is primarily about simulating a multi-speaker surround sound environment. Google has been working on the feature for the past few months, introducing relevant code in the Android 13 QPR1 beta released in September last year. This feature was briefly launched in the stable version, but Google has since withdrawn it.

There are not many models currently enjoying this feature, only Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro (Pixel 6a is not supported for now), and Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro four models.

The change, first spotted by Esper.io’s Android expert Mishaal Rahman, brings a new Spatializer API to Android that headphones can take advantage of to create a more powerful soundstage. While it looks like many earbuds and headphones are supported, of course, Google’s own Pixel Buds Pro will (eventually) provide the best experience.

Foreign technology media SamMobile recently released a new video comparing the camera shooting capabilities of the Samsung Galaxy S22 and Google Pixel 7. In the video, the camera performance of the two flagship phones is compared in depth, including the comparison of photos in different scenarios such as daytime and nighttime, as well as the comparison of selfie photos and videos.

The Galaxy S22 offers a dedicated 3x optical zoom camera, so it has an inherent advantage when it comes to telephoto shooting. The Pixel 7, on the other hand, uses a digital zoom, so it can’t compete with the S22 in terms of optical zoom capabilities. As a result, the Galaxy S22 can take photos with a blurrier background in portrait mode compared to the Pixel 7.

While the Pixel 7 camera tends to favor more natural colors and skin tones, the S22’s algorithm may be better in some cases. In most cases, the Galaxy S22 seems to capture more detail and has better focus.

It’s worth noting that these differences between Google’s and Samsung’s approach to mobile photography are also apparent in the leaked Galaxy S23 sample photos. As a result, this trend will continue in 2023.

If there’s one clear advantage the Pixel 7 has over the Galaxy S22, it’s probably in terms of shooting 4K video with the rear camera, mainly because Google’s phone allows for a seamless 4K shooting experience as users switch between wide-angle and ultra-wide angle lenses.

Yesterday DXOMARK announced the total image score of Google Pixel 7 – 140 points, ranking first among mid-range and high-end models, and 10th among all models, narrowly beating Huawei Mate 40 Pro+ (139 points) and Xiaomi Mi 12S Ultra (136 points).

On the plus side, DXOMARK says that in still images, the Pixel 7 showed beautiful skin tones and natural white balance in most test conditions, accurate target exposure, wide dynamic range, good contrast and surprisingly good performance in portrait photography. Autofocus was fast and accurate, and test images showed a high level of detail, with artifacts well controlled. And when it comes to video shooting, the Pixel 7 demonstrates good exposure and a wide dynamic range, with autofocus responding quickly to keep moving subjects in focus.

On the downside, DXOMARK says the Pixel 7 has a narrower field of view and limited zoom performance than the Pro version due to the lack of a dedicated telephoto lens and ultra-wide angle camera, and there is some noticeable noise in the shadow areas of the image in HDR and low-light scenes. The Pixel 7 was released earlier this year in October.

The Pixel 7 was released earlier this year in October and features a 6.3-inch 90Hz high-brush OLED screen with FHD+ resolution, a self-developed Google Tensor G2 processor, support for pure 64-bit applications, a 50MP f/1.85 aperture camera and a 12MP f/2.2 aperture wide-angle camera, support for optical stabilization, electronic image stabilization, laser The camera supports optical stabilization, electronic image stabilization, laser autofocus and other features.
