Google started testing 5G support for Pixel phones in India with the Android 13 QPR Beta 2 update in January this year. With the success of the Beta test, Google is now rolling out the March Pixel feature update, which brings various fixes in addition to 5G network support for India.

This update enables the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 6a to connect to Jio and Airtel’s 5G network. Once installed, 5G will be automatically enabled (you should see “5G” in the status bar once the phone is connected to the network).

How to activate 5G on Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro or Pixel 6a:

Go to Settings on your Pixel phone.

Click Network and Internet.

Select a 5G-enabled SIM card and click Network Preferences.

Three options will then be shown – 5G, LTE and 3G. Click to select 5G.

After a few seconds, you will be able to use 5G service on your Pixel phone.

Other features in the March feature update include support for faster Night Sight shots on the Pixel 7 series phones, Health Connect, fall detection for the Pixel Watch, and some features enabled on older models.

One of the more interesting changes is that users can enable two eSIMs at the same time on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. However, this is only available for some operators and it has not been confirmed whether Jio India and Airtel are among them.

Google’s new Pixel 7 and 7 Pro smartphones, as well as the Pixel 6a released earlier last year, still don’t support 5G networks in India, even though they are officially on sale there. Google said Apple also only recently updated its iPhone phone system to support 5G networks in India, as did Samsung. Nonetheless, the search giant is still a bit behind schedule.

In an official statement, Google promised to roll out a 5G-enabled OTA update sometime in the first quarter of 2023. The initial timeline was last December, but Google apparently jumped the gun.

In the statement, Google said it is working closely with Indian operators to enable next-generation connectivity and comply with local regulations and standards. Xiaomi is also working on the update, and it has a number of 5G-enabled phones in India.

The race for supremacy in the mobile photography world is competitive, and the Google Pixel 7 Pro excels under tests. According to DxOMark, the new Pro model in Google’s flagship smartphone line-up for 2022 is a champion to a certain degree. Shockingly, the Pixel 7 Pro scores even more than the iPhone 14 Pro under standard mobile photography tests.

Earlier in the year on April 22, the Honor Magic 4 Ultimate became official and took the top spot as the reigning champion in smartphone photography from Huawei. At the time, the Huawei P50 Pro was holding the top spot in mobile photography with a score of 143. But the Honor Magic 4 Ultimate after going through intensive camera testing came out with a score of 147 snatching the top spot away from camera kings, Huawei.

With the launch of the Google Pixel 7 Pro, a new top competitor came into the mobile photography department. This device shares the same camera score as the Honor Magic 4 Ultimate but occupies the top spot since it is a new device. At a camera score of 147, this new Pixel device performs better than the iPhone 14 Pro with a score of 146.

For now, the list of top smartphone cameras by DxOMark might still topple over, since other flagship devices are yet to go through testing. The likes of the Huawei Mate 50 Pro can alter the rankings since the Chinese tech giant has been a constant appearance on the top smartphone camera list. Another honourable mention that can as well alter the rankings is the Xiaomi 12S Ultra.

With the launch of the Google Pixel 7 series, users have discovered that the Google Pixel 7 series appears to be the first Android smartphone to support only 64-bit apps.

According to blogger @MishaalRahman, confirming to those who own a Pixel 7 Pro that the Pixel 7 series only support running 64-bit applications, which means that 32-bit applications that are not updated will not work, such as Flappy Bird.

An error message appears when trying to install a 32-bit-only Android app on the Pixel 7.

@MishaalRahman also pointed out that while Android 13 on Pixel 7 phones don’t allow 32-bit apps to run, internally, the OS is still using some 32-bit libraries, implying that Google is intentionally preventing 32-bit apps from running.

Most users will not be aware of this, because most applications already support 64-bit, and since August 2019, all applications on the Google Play Store must have 64-bit support, Last year it stopped offering 32-bit applications without any 64-bit support.

XDA-Developers senior tech editor Adam Conway started experiencing the Google Pixel 7 Pro smartphone on Monday, and while he was amazed by the hardware and software experience, he also encountered some problems. For example, while the battery life has been significantly optimized, when used at higher brightness levels, the power consumption increases abnormally for a short period of time, causing the battery life to plummet. The problem was confirmed by Daniel Bader, head of Valnet’s technology brand, but it’s unclear if it can be easily fixed with a software update.

Based on this, it can be determined that the Pixel 7 Pro will consume more power in outdoor scenarios (when the screen brightness is pulled up). The bigger problem, however, is that the increase in brightness and power consumption is not linear.

After talking to other members of XDA-Developers, Adam Conway collected power readings from the device and found that the Pixel 7 Pro appeared to have serious display performance issues.

He then enlisted the help of display analyst Dylan Raga, and the two compared measurements from the Pixel 6 Pro and Galaxy S22 Plus to learn more about the Pixel 7 Pro’s anomalies.

It was clear that at 600 nits, the four Pixel 7 Pros consumed around 3.5 to 4W of power. But when pulled up to maximum brightness, the power spikes to 6W.

It should also be noted that the regular display brightness level, usually measures peak brightness at 1% APL (only a small portion of the screen is lit). While in a pure white interface, the entire panel will spike to 1000 nits in high brightness mode.

For reference, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra smartphone only consumes about 2/4W of power at 600 / 1000 nits brightness.

Dylan Raga mentioned that — according to data collected by Adam Conway — the Pixel 7 Pro’s screen consumes nearly half the power of the Galaxy S22+ / S22 Ultra.

As for the previous-generation Pixel 6 Pro model, similar trends were found in real-world testing. Presumably, Google had problems with panel selection, and the Pixel 7 Pro made the problem worse.

Adam Conway also spoke with Android Police’s Ben Sin, Daniel Bader, and Manuel Voneu, whose Pixel 7 Pro device from Google roughly replicates the problem.

For reference, the Tensor G2 chipset in the Pixel 7 Pro has a TDP power consumption of 10 to 12W, meaning that the screen in manual brightness will only consume slightly less than half the power of the former.

But in high-brightness mode, or when playing performance-intensive games, it’s entirely possible to quickly run out of power in three hours at 18W.

Awkwardly, that’s not the only problem the Pixel 7 Pro is experiencing. For example, Prasad Naik of GSM Arena pointed out on Twitter that the screen stays active for a shorter period of time even when the phone is turned off (locked).

Today, the well-known evaluation agency DXOMARK announced the image score of Google’s next-generation flagship, the Pixel 7 Pro. Surprisingly, this model ranked first in the DXOMARK global image rankings with the Honor Magic4 Ultimate Edition with a total image score of 147.

DXOMARK said that the image experience of Google Pixel 7 Pro is excellent and stable in all aspects. Compared with the previous generation Pixel 6 Pro, it has been greatly improved, especially the zoom and video performance have made a qualitative leap due to software optimization.

It is worth mentioning that DXOMARK believes that the biggest highlight of Google Pixel 7 Pro is portrait shooting. It is slightly better than the Apple iPhone 14 Pro in the latest DXOMARK family and friends & family image sub-score.

Of course, the Google Pixel 7 Pro isn’t perfect either, with occasional chromatic aberration in indoor video footage, and shadow noise in videos and photos in high-contrast scenes and low-light conditions.

It is understood that the Google Pixel 7 Pro has a rear 50 million wide-angle main camera + 48 million telephoto + 12 million ultra-wide-angle triple camera, and a front-facing 10.8 million-pixel lens.

In terms of core configuration, Google Pixel 7 Pro is equipped with a Google Tensor G2 processor, with a single-core score of 1068 and a multi-core score of 3149. Compared with competing products, the performance of this SoC is comparable to that of the Snapdragon 888, and the performance of this SoC is comparable to that of the Snapdragon 8+ and the MediaTek Dimensity 9000. + The difference is obvious.
