It is learned from Goertek’s official public account that on July 29, the “2023 VR&AR” sponsored by Goertek Optical Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Goertek), a subsidiary of GoerTek, Display Optics Technology Summit” was held in Qingdao. At the meeting, Goertek released a new VR Pancake module and AR-HUD PGU module to help equipped products achieve clearer and better display effects.

At present, pancake has become the main optical solution for thinning and lightening VR head-mounted displays. This time, Goertek launched a new VR pancake display module StarCraft C31, which adopts a 2-piece lens design and curved paste gluing technology. According to the official statement, compared with the mainstream LCD pancake Module, under the premise of ensuring 95°FOV, PPD (pixel density) is increased by 85%, MTF (definition) is increased by 20%, stray light is reduced by 25%, and it is adapted to 4K Micro-OLED screen to make the display effect more clear and delicate ; At the same time, another VR Pancake display module, Interstellar P31, adopts a 3-piece lens solution and a mature planar film technology. The MTF is increased by 15%, and the FOV is up to 95°, which can be adapted to 4K Micro-OLED screens. The excellent display effects of the two products can meet the needs of various application scenarios such as video conferencing, business office, and audio-visual entertainment.

In addition, GoerTek also launched the PGU 4620 Gen2, an upgraded version of the PGU 4620 module for the vehicle-mounted AR-HUD. Using the latest DLPC technology, the brightness has increased by 80% compared with the previous generation product, reaching 200lm, the refresh rate is 120Hz, and the contrast ratio is as high as 1800:1. And the multi-color temperature adjustable function has been added to meet the display requirements of different environmental user scenarios; in addition, the module adopts a modular design, which can be quickly adjusted and developed according to requirements, shortening the development cycle and accelerating product launch.

According to Goertek, since its establishment in 2012, it has been committed to the R&D and production of optical display technologies such as VR&AR and micro-projection. In 2019, it achieved the mass production of the world’s first Pancake VR display module and has been leading in shipments for many years.

According to reports, the single-layer lens full-color AR diffractive waveguide display module launched by Goertek this time has a FOV of 28°. Under the premise of low power consumption, the eye-catching brightness can still be as high as 700nits. The usage scenarios include AR navigation, audio and video Entertainment, interactive collaboration, etc. Its optical engine uses LCoS technology, with a volume of less than 1cc and weight as low as 1.6g. It claims to be the smallest and lightest full-color display optical engine module. The module uses Goertek’s single-layer full-color diffractive optical waveguide lens, and the thickness of the lens is only 0.7mm.

Another Micro LED single-green diffractive waveguide display module, with FOV of 30°, eye-catching brightness higher than 1500nits, equipped with a small optical engine and diffractive waveguide lens with a volume of about 0.3cc, suitable for AR applications such as cycling and information prompts Scenes.

It was reported that Apple CEO Tim Cook was dissatisfied with the bloated appearance of his company’s first MR device and hoped to develop a glasses-like MR device. This kind of small AR display module may be a breakthrough for head-mounted devices to eliminate bulky and bulky appearance.

Goertek launched the first smart Bandreference design Link, which mainly realizes XR device interaction. It can be controlled and interacted with the touch screen, buttons and simple gestures of the Band, aiming to solve the current AR glasses have limitations in terms of touch (too small to use), voice (inconvenient in public places), etc.

Link is equipped with a 1.64-inch AMOLED screen, supports Bluetooth and NFC, and can realize gesture and motion recognition, and monitor health and sports data; it can connect AR glasses & mobile phones at the same time, load AI gesture recognition algorithm, and users can use simple gestures/keys / Touch screen to control AR glasses; equipped with high-precision distance sensing based on UWB sensor so that the approach control or unlocking/locking process can be displayed on the AR glasses in a visual way. Link can also be used independently as a smart Band when connected to a mobile phone.

It was previously reported that Gravity, an XR glasses-specific chip research and development company, recently completed a Pre-A+ round of financing of hundreds of millions of CNY, led by Tongge Fund (funded by Goertek, PICO, Mihayou and Sanqi Mutual Entertainment). The core product that Gravity is currently developing is an XR-specific co-processing chip, which can optimize components such as displays and sensory sensors of XR devices, and provide functions such as real-time image rendering, sensor data processing, and mixed reality interaction.
