Qualcomm new test device appeared in Geekbench, equipped with “8cx Next Gen”, should be the new generation of Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 PC processor.

Geekbench scores for the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 test device are not normal at the moment, but it is confirmed to be an 8+4 core design.

Summary of the information, Snapdragon 8cx Gen4 will feature 12 cores, 8 performance cores + 4 performance cores. The performance core is about 3.4GHz and the performance core is about 2.5GHz.

Other than that, the chip supports up to 64GB of LPDDR5x memory and the integrated GPU is Adreno 740, the same GPU as in Snapdragon 8 Gen2, offering DirectX 12, Vulkan 1.3, OpenCL and DirectML support. The processor supports discrete GPUs connected via eight PCIe 4.0 lanes, as well as PCIe 4.0 SSDs and UFS 4.0 flash memory. For IO, the chip supports two USB 3.1 10Gbps ports, and three USB 4 (Thunderbolt 4) ports with DisplayPort 1.4a support. In addition, the chip’s display output has been greatly improved, the chip can output up to 5K + 4K + 4K resolution at the same time.

Qualcomm has been testing the Snapdragon 8cx Gen4 with a 10-inch screen development device since November 2022, which could mean that Qualcomm intends to use the Snapdragon 8cx Gen4 processor in a small-screen laptop or 2-in-1 device, sources said.

The Geekbench running score platform exposed Apple’s unreleased M2 Max chip last week, with a single-core processor score of 1889 points and a multi-core score of 14586 points. The platform once again exposed the latest running scores of the M2 Max chip. The single-core processor score is 2027 points, and the multi-core score is 14888 points. The single-core score has improved significantly.

The GeekBench running sub-library shows that the device model is still “Mac14,6”, and the CPU is also an Apple M2 Max with 12 cores, but the CPU frequency in this test is 3.68 GHz, not Previously 3.54 GHz. The device memory used in the test was also 96GB.

For comparison, the entry-level Mac Studio’s M1 Max chip has 10 cores at 3.2GHz, scoring 1746 single-core and 12154 multi-core. From the score, the single-core performance is 14% faster, and the multi-core performance is improved by up to 22%.

It’s worth noting that the M2 chip powering the 2022 MacBook Air and the latest iPad Pro is only 11 percent faster than the M1, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the M2 Max wasn’t a major upgrade over its predecessor.

The Geekbench benchmark database has just revealed the latest benchmarks for the AMD Zen 4 Ryzen R9-7900X. It can be seen that as a 12C / 24T desktop processor, its multi-threading performance is more than 30% higher than the previous generation R9-5900X, and it also beats the 8P+8E (16C / 24T) Intel Core i9-12900K flagship SKU.

The R9-7900X has a base frequency of 4.7 GHz / single-core acceleration up to 5.6 GHz, supplemented by 12MB L2 + 64MB L3 cache (76 MB total), and a thermal design power (TDP) of 170W.

From a market positioning point of view, the R9-7900X is designed to replace the R9-5900X while putting more pressure on the Core i7-12700K competitor.

The R9-7900X has previously been absent from the Geekbench 5 benchmark, but the new revelation also reveals the platform used for the test – including 32GB of DDR5 memory and an X670 AORUS Master motherboard.

In the end, the AM5 desktop CPU scored a single-core 2167 / multi-core 18446 points, which were 30% and 33% higher than the previous generation R9-5900X respectively.

Although the 13th Gen Raptor Lake Core i7-13700K does lead the R9-7900X in multi-threaded performance, the single-threaded performance is still a bit widened.

It should be noted, however, that the R9-7900X retails for a slightly higher price ($549), while the 12th-gen Alder Lake Core i7-12700K is only $409.

Multithreaded performance comparison

If the same-level Raptor Lake premium is about 20%, the price of the i7-13700K may still be less than $500, and the -F version without a nuclear display can even be close to $400 – not to mention that the 13th generation Core retains affordable DDR4 memory. support.

Finally, AMD Zen 4 Ryzen 7000 series desktop CPUs and accompanying AM5 new motherboard platforms will be available on September 27, with Intel 13th Gen Core/700 chipset motherboards to follow.
