The Galaxy Z Fold 4 uses the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and 12GB worth of RAM. For its camera layout, there is a total of 5 cameras on this device, three rear with a 50MP main lens and two front-facing lenses.

The two selfie cameras are on both screens, with the internal screen holding a 4MP under-display lens and the external screen holding a 10MP selfie sensor. As for its battery capacity, this foldable device comes with a 4400mAh battery which supports 25W wired charging. The pricing of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 starts at $1,349 and can be got with an S-Pen.

Huawei Mate Xs 2

This foldable smartphone comes with a different folding pattern, instead of folding inwards, its 7.8-inch screen folds outward into a 6.5-inch screen. The Huawei Mate Xs 2 comes with the Snapdragon 888 4G processor and up to 12GB worth of RAM. It also comes with a triple rear camera setup housing a 50MP main lens and on the front is a 10.7MP selfie camera.

The battery capacity on this foldable device from Huawei is, 4600mAh, and it supports 66W fast charging with the Huawei SuperCharge technology. Unlike the other foldable devices on this list, the Huawei Mate Xs 2 does not support 4G connectivity and does not run Android 12 or above. Its retail price starts at over $2000 making it the most expensive foldable device on our list.

OPPO Find N

Just like the Huawei Mate Xs 2, the OPPO Find N comes with a unique form factor with its 5.49-inch external screen and 7.1-inch external display. Being smaller than all other foldable devices in this list, we can call the Find N a compact folding device. The processor in use on this device is the Snapdragon 888 5G, and it comes with up to 12GB worth of RAM.

For its camera abilities, the OPPO Find N comes with a 50MP main camera sensor and on the front is a 32MP selfie camera on both screens. The battery capacity here is, 4500mAh, and it supports 33W fast charging with the OPPO SuperVOOC technology. It starts at a retail price of $1000 hence making it the cheapest foldable device on this list.

Honor Magic Vs

The Honor Magic Vs is the second foldable device from Honor and comes with a 7.9-inch internal display and a 6.45-inch external display. It also comes with a gliding hinge in place of a mechanical hinge as found on the other foldable in this list. This helps it to achieve a gapless folding mechanism unlike that on the Samsung Galaxy Fold Z 4.

It uses the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor with up to 16GB worth of RAM in its prestige edition. The device also comes with a triple camera setup housing a 54MP main camera and for selfies, there is a 16MP front-facing camera. Additionally, this device has the largest battery capacity on any foldable device being 5000mAh, and it supports 66W fast charging. This is the most recent foldable device on this list and will soon be available globally for purchase for over $1200.

These are the best foldable smartphones of 2022 other honourable mentions are the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold 2 and the Vivo X Fold+. In a few months, we expect to see the launch of new foldable devices from the likes of OPPO and Huawei. These devices will bring some upgrades to features that are currently available in the foldable market.

The coming clamshell folding device from OPPO will be similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 3. It has the codename Dragonfly, although this might not be the name the device will launch with. The coming book folding device will carry on from where the Find N left off.

Certainly, there will be upgrades in the performance and design of the coming book folding device. Whether the company will stick to the form factor of their previous foldable or change isn’t certain. Specifications of this device as well are still a mystery, and we’d have to wait for leaks or actual statements from the company.

The said clamshell folding device will be the first attempt of OPPO at such a form factor. Reports have it that the company is working to reduce the thickness of this device. Certainly, this reduction will be in comparison with what is currently available in the foldable smartphone market. To achieve such a size reduction, the folding hinge will need some work. 

We’d wait to see the outcome of these foldable devices and how they’d perform. As we know, Motorola is gearing up to launch its clamshell folding device. The same is true of Samsung and Huawei, although available reports on the latter point to a book folding device. There will be an increase in competition within the foldable smartphone industry.
