The stable version of Edge 104.0.1293.47 was officially released today. The most notable addition in this release is the new Enhanced Security mode. This feature was previously known as Super Duper Secure mode, with both Balanced and Strict options. After the name change, Microsoft added the Basic option, which is recommended for most users.

Microsoft’s official explanation of “Enhanced Security Mode” is that “running JIT-less without just in time (JIT) compilation provides additional protection when users visit unfamiliar websites, reducing the attack surface and making it difficult for malicious sites to find breakthroughs”. These additional protections include various Windows OS mitigations such as hardware-enforced stack protection, arbitrary code protection (ACG), and control flow protection (CFG).

Feature Updates

"● Enhance your security on the network. Enhancements to network security in edge://settings/privacy now include Basic as the new default option. With this option, Microsoft Edge will apply additional security to less-visited sites. This feature preserves the user experience of the most popular sites on the Web. For more information, see Browse more securely with Microsoft Edge.

● Chrome data can be imported without opening Chrome during the first runtime experience. This feature allows users to bring in their Chrome data by signing in to their Google account during the first runtime experience of Microsoft Edge. This feature can be disabled by using the HideFirstRunExperience policy to disable the first run experience, or by setting AutoImportAtFirstRun to "DisabledAutoImport".
