According to Bloomberg, Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe introduced their new project to employees at the company’s all-hands meeting held last Friday – electric bicycles. He mentioned that the startup already has a small group of engineers working on bike-related technology.

Bloomberg was unable to confirm whether the car here refers to an electric motorcycle or a regular electric bicycle, but Rivian has currently registered patents for electric bicycle components and designs. Scaringe has also previously said that Rivian eventually wants to enter the micromobility market, but details were unknown.

At present, the sales of electric bicycles in the United States are actually far more than electric cars and pickup trucks. After all, bicycles are cheaper, so more users can afford them. Therefore, other companies such as Porsche have also joined this market segment.

Rivian also announced layoffs last week, which will affect 6% of its workforce. The layoffs are the second major restructuring at Rivian in less than a year.

The company said the move is an attempt to refocus on expanding production of its R1T and R1S electric vehicles, putting Rivian on a path to long-term profitability.

Energy and emission reduction are the global themes at the moment, so manufacturers of motorcycles, too, have their sights set on electric bikes. The news, the new Oasis Honda motorcycle official and MUJI MUJI co-branded electric bike have opened a pre-sale, limited to 5,000 units, at the retail price of 4,980 yuan.

According to the official news, the new bike is a simple, practical, and comfortable electric bike developed with green as the starting point, in which the new Daizhou Honda is tuned to the standards of motorcycles to provide security and control.

In terms of appearance, the e-bike is very simple, with two versions, pure black, and black and white. The overall style refers to the design concept of pedal motorcycles, where the seat and grip are ergonomic design solutions.

In terms of dimensions and weight, the bike is 1839/693/1087mm in length, width, and height, with a 54.1kg overall mass. It is equipped with 17-inch six-spoke wheels, a front disc brake, and rear drum brake system, and 70/90-17 vacuum tires.

The car is simply equipped with ED headlights and an LCD display that can be used to show speed, power and other relevant information.

In terms of power, it uses a 400-watt motor with a 48V20AH ternary lithium battery, with a top speed of 25 km/h and a theoretical range of 65 km.

But it should be noted that the car only provides a seat, in terms of practicality is relatively poor, if you have the need to transport children, this car is not very suitable.
