According to the official Instagram broadcast information of the 911 hotline in Gallatin County, Montana, USA, since December 1-15, 2022, 28 Apple iPhone 14 / Apple False alarms from the Watch’s “crash detection” that rescuers arrived at and found were non-emergency signals from skiers.

Apple’s “Car Crash Detection” feature uses a variety of sensors and data to detect suspected car crashes and alert authorities. The post said that since Dec. 1, all calls received through the feature in the country were from the iPhones of Big Sky Resort, Bridger Bowl or Yellowstone Club skiers who did not require emergency services.

The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue have provided iPhone users with tips to avoid sending fake calls to the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue:

"If you notice a false emergency alert from your phone or watch, get in touch with the dispatcher, give them your location and activity, and let them know the call was an accident. If you do not respond, Gallatin County 911 will try to call your number twice. If you inadvertently make a false positive, Gallatin County District requests that you answer those calls and provide the above information if possible.

If you're in a remote area, expect to receive a call, and a nearby ski patrol or search and rescue team will try to reach you. If you do not respond to any previous calls, public safety personnel may be dispatched to ensure your safety."
