In response to General Motors’ announcement that future electric vehicles would no longer support CarPlay, Ford CEO Jim Farley publicly stated on social media on Wednesday that Ford would firmly support CarPlay.

“Ford is committed to retaining Apple CarPlay and Android Auto because these two features help drivers keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel,” Farley said. “We’re working closely with Apple and Google to create the best possible experience for our customers.” A high-quality experience. I think we’ve created the best experience with the SYNC 4A infotainment system.”

It is noted that Farley’s remarks came after General Motors tried to defend its decision to abandon CarPlay. GM believes that removing CarPlay will mean drivers use their phones less frequently and will be less distracted. However, Ford sees things differently, saying CarPlay and Android Auto can help drivers stay focused on the road and make driving safer.

Notably, Ford is also on Apple’s list of automakers that will support the next generation of CarPlay. Other automakers supporting next-gen CarPlay include Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Lincoln, Audi, Volvo, Honda, Porsche, Nissan, Jaguar, Acura, Polestar, Renault and Infiniti.

Although it is unclear whether Ford will support the next generation of CarPlay, it has made it clear that it will continue to support CarPlay and emphasizes its emphasis on driving safety, which is undoubtedly a strong response to GM’s decision.

General Motors announced in March this year that starting with the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer, subsequent models will gradually phase out support for Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto, and will instead cooperate with Google to support Android Automotive based on Android Automotive. , develop customized vehicle and machine systems.

Tim Babbitt, GM’s head of infotainment products, recently gave an interview to MotorTrend and provided additional insights into the abandonment of CarPlay and Android Auto.

Babbitt said GM always puts consumer safety first, and CarPlay and Android Auto can have problems with poor connections, slow response times, compatibility issues and connectivity issues that distract drivers from troubleshooting smartphones.

Babbitt said that the built-in car computer system reduces the dependence on services such as CarPlay, allowing drivers to reduce the probability of picking up their mobile phones while driving, thus improving road safety.

Note: Babbitt did not provide relevant theoretical basis during the interview, nor did he conduct corresponding tests.

Babbitt cited J.D. Power data showing that drivers who encounter problems using CarPlay and Android Auto tend to direct their anger at the automakers, rather than Apple and Google.

GM’s planned infotainment system will integrate Google apps, including Google Maps and Google Assistant for voice commands.

As MotorTrend points out, eliminating CarPlay would give GM more control over driver data and allow GM to offer subscription services and apps that allow for the purchase of groceries, gas and other sundries.

Apple today released iOS / iPadOS 16.4 and macOS 13.3, a system update that brings several improvements to the Apple Podcasts app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and CarPlay.

Podcast Channel List

The Podcasts app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac has a new menu called Channels. When users click on this menu, they can view all current podcasts, making it easy to find the channels they are interested in.

Up Next

The Up Next queue will contain episodes of podcasts that listeners have chosen to save to the Library, as well as podcasts they haven’t followed but have listened to previously, and IT House has learned from reports that users will also have additional tools to manage Up Next.

See how many unaired episodes are left on a channel

Users can more visually see how many episodes are left on the channel they are following.

Improved podcast experience for the CarPlay platform

CarPlay’s Listen Now page provides access to Up Next and Recently Played entries. Editor’s picks for podcasts are available in the Browse tab.
