With Huawei and Apple taking the lead in supporting emergency satellite communications in regular smartphones, the number of players in this feature is becoming more and more popular.

Bullitt said that over the past 18 months, Bullitt and MediaTek have worked together to test satellite communication capabilities in the next generation of Bullitt-designed 5G smartphones. The test simulated a connection to a low earth orbit (LEO) satellite, and Bullitt’s phone will be able to establish a connection and send messages via satellite in about 10 seconds.

Pioneering the use of MediaTek’s 3GPP NTN chipset, Bullitt also developed proprietary software and service components to provide OTT satellite messaging services.

Bullitt’s satellite communications handset and OTT satellite service will be commercially available in the first quarter of 2023 and will include free satellite SOS functionality. The device provides smart services and will only switch to a satellite connection when no cellular or Wi-Fi connection is available.

The service will also integrate with the user’s existing contacts to provide a seamless experience when using satellite communications with phone communications on the cellular network.

Some of you may be unfamiliar with the company Bullitt. The company’s main products are phones that work in harsh conditions and is also the maker of the CAT (Carter phone), Land Rover Tri-Block, and Motorola Tri-Block phones.
