The Intel 18A (1.8nm) process is one of Intel’s newly named processes. In 2020, Intel proposes advanced processes such as Intel 7, Intel 4, Intel 3, Intel 20A, and Intel 18A, and plans to launch a generation a year.

Intel 4, Intel 3, Intel 20A, and Intel 18A four generations of advanced manufacturing processes are developed by two teams at the same time. Among them, Intel 20A will be mass-produced in the first half of 2024 according to the plan, and has reached a cooperation with Qualcomm.

The Intel 18A process was originally planned to be mass-produced in 2025, but now the speed of progress is faster than expected, and mass production will be in the second half of 2024 half a year in advance.

It was reported earlier this year that Intel Senior Vice President and China Chairman Wang Rui said that Intel 7 has been mass-produced, Intel 4 will be launched in the second half of this year and will be used for Core processors (Meter Lake), Intel 3 is advancing as planned, and Intel 20A (2nm) and Intel 18A (1.8nm) test chips have been taped out.

Indian Airlines announced that it has signed agreements with aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing to purchase a record 470 aircraft, the largest passenger aircraft purchase order in the history of commercial aviation.

Specifically, Air India agreed to purchase 250 Airbus aircraft at a total price of $45.9 billion, including 210 A320neo narrow-bodies and 40 A350 wide-bodies; and 220 Boeing aircraft, including 190 737 MAX narrow-bodies, 20 787 wide-bodies and 10 777Xs, worth $34 billion.

Air India’s total aircraft purchase will reach 495, an Airbus executive said, adding that another 25 Airbus aircraft will be leased to meet the company’s current needs.

US President Joe Biden called the agreement “historic” and said he looked forward to further deepening the partnership with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi as they tackle shared global challenges.

Narendra Modi pointed out that this important agreement shows that India will become the third largest aviation market in the world, and the Indian aviation industry will need more than 2,000 aircraft in the next 15 years.

The order also reflects Air India’s strategy to modernize its aging fleet and recapture a share of travel between India’s large diaspora and cities such as Delhi and Mumbai, which are largely operated by Gulf airlines such as Emirates. Rival young fleets dominate.

Air India’s new chief executive, Campbell Wilson, is trying to restore its reputation as a world-class airline, shedding its past image of sluggishness, aging fleet and poor service.

Air India was founded by the legendary JRD Tata, who was also a pioneer in the aviation industry in India. The company was acquired by India’s largest conglomerate Tata Group last year, shedding decades of losses and debt from Air India.

N Chandrasekaran, chairman of India’s Tata group, said Airbus and Tata were working on a closer partnership, including the introduction of a commercial aircraft production line at some point in the future.

Boeing reported another quarterly loss, but the company still plans to increase aircraft production and deliveries this year in the face of supply chain challenges, according to the Wall Street Journal.

US media pointed out that Boeing has reported losses for the fourth consecutive year because it faces the problem of exceeding budget for commercial aircraft production costs. Both Boeing and rival Airbus benefited from a rebound in aircraft orders last year as airlines recovered from the travel downturn caused by the pandemic. But the two companies have struggled to increase production to keep up with demand due to shortages of components such as aircraft engines.

The financial report shows that for the full year of 2022, Boeing’s revenue will be about US$66.6 billion (currently about 451.548 billion yuan), a year-on-year increase of 7%; the net loss will be about 5.053 billion US dollars (currently about 34.259 billion yuan), an increase of about 18% year-on-year.

Boeing delivered 152 commercial aircraft in the fourth quarter of 2022, a year-on-year increase of 54%; in 2022, it delivered 480 commercial aircraft, a year-on-year increase of 41%. In addition, Boeing has received a total of 774 net orders for commercial aircraft in 2022, including 561 orders for the 737 family and 213 orders for twin-aisle aircraft.

Judging from the financial report, the current production of Boeing 737 is 31 per month. Boeing plans to increase the production of this model to 50 per month in two years, and increase the production of Boeing 787 to 5 per month by the end of this year.
