BMW announced yesterday that the new compact all-electric SUV BMW iX1 has officially rolled off the production line at its Regensburg plant in Germany, where the iX1’s high-voltage battery is also in production.

According to the introduction, the plant can realize a series of electric vehicle production actions from the high-voltage battery to complete vehicle assembly, which means that all BMW factories in Germany, can produce and manufacture electric vehicles, while traditional fuel car production will be transferred to BMW’s factories in the UK and Austria.

To achieve its ambitious electrification goals, Milan, the BMW board member responsible for production, said that by 2024, one-third of the models produced at BMW’s German plants will be electrified, including the BMW iX1, an all-electric product in the compact SUV segment.

In addition, the BMW plant has introduced a new digital production process that, in addition to digital mapping that effectively plans the future plant structure and production facilities, also incorporates AI to assist the paint shop in ensuring perfect paint quality and aids employees in quality checks.

The BMW iX1 was released in June this year, and the new car is equipped with two electric motors with 313 horsepower and 364 lb-ft (494 Nm) of torque, with a wind resistance coefficient of 0.26Cd and a zero-hundred acceleration of 5.7 seconds for the xDrive30 dual-motor version.

BMW has launched the new BMW iX1 for the European market, a small all-electric SUV that is an electric version of the company’s smallest crossover, the BMW X1. The BMW iX1 uses a dual-motor system, equipped with BMW’s signature “Adaptive M Suspension” and a 64.7-kilowatt-hour battery, with a range of 257 to 272 miles (413 to 439 kilometers) and an acceleration of 100 kilometers in 5.7 seconds.

The car’s boot is smaller than that of a petrol or diesel car, but at 490 liters it still has a good capacity and there is enough room in the rear seats for adults to sit comfortably. What sets this car apart is its responsive steering, which makes it more attractive than a Volvo or Mercedes.

In terms of price, BMW has not yet announced pricing details for the car, but it could be priced between 40,000 and 50,000 euros.

According to foreign media reports, the BMW iX1 will compete with the Audi Q4 e-tron, Mercedes EQA and Volvo XC40 Recharge.

Like all brands, BMW is taking several approaches to move to electrification, which means the company will launch some pure electric versions of its cars in addition to light hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions.

BMW, once the brand of choice for speed-hungry sedan buyers, is now facing pressure from electric car maker Tesla. Currently, the company’s electric cars include the i3, iX3, i4, iNext, Mini Cooper SE and others.

On Monday, local time, BMW Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Nicolas Peter (Nicolas Peter) said BMW expects to deliver about 240,000 to 245,000 electric cars this year, and the number could rise to about 400,000 next year.

The pure electric version of the BMW X1, the iX1, will not be launched in the United States, and such crossover models will only be available in the European and Chinese markets.

BMW released the third-generation BMW X1 in June this year, and also released the pure electric version of the X1, the BMW iX1.

The BMW iX1 xDrive 30 is equipped with two motors, capable of 313 horsepower and 494 Nm of torque, and is equipped with a battery pack with a capacity of 64.7kWh. 385,500 RMB), a cheaper FWD version is expected to launch in 2023.

According to reports, both the BMW iX1 and the third-generation X1 are produced at BMW’s Regensburg plant.

At first, many expected the iX1 to be sold in the U.S., as the ICE counterpart has been sold in the U.S. since 2012. However, according to Car Scoops, a BMW executive said “the only model currently planned for the U.S. is the X1 xDrive28i.”

Additionally, BMW Blog recently published a report that killed all hope for US users waiting for the iX1:

“Unfortunately, BMW USA has decided that the iX1 is not needed, as the compact crossover will only be sold here in the combustion engine version.”

A follow-up report further emphasized this point:

“While we launched the regular X1 in the U.S. market, the electric version will remain on the other side of the Atlantic.”
