In the 2022 BMW 3 Series sedan, the new Mobileye EyeQ5 Mid chip features a single front-facing windshield camera with an 8-megapixel image sensor and a wide 120-degree field of view. This marks the end of Mobileye’s trifocal camera module, which has three separate cameras with lower resolution and different fields of view.

“Recent NCAP requirements ensure earlier detection of vulnerable road users and more accurate and reliable classification of objects in the field of view. The move behind the integration of front windshield cameras will allow OEMs to Customers to reduce hardware costs. But to achieve this increase in camera resolution, smaller pixel sizes are required. This reduces the amount of light the image sensor can receive, making low-light operation more challenging. Therefore, the resolution is the key to automotive Where cameras lag behind consumer electronics and mobile applications.”

Higher resolution also means tighter mechanical tolerances in the design of automotive cameras. Technologies have been developed to ensure that increased camera performance does not come at the expense of operating in the more challenging environments encountered in cars while being able to process higher levels of data and enhance objects by adding artificial intelligence perception.

Recently, the news, a media exposure of BMW’s new car planning, the new generation of BMW 3 Series or the world debut in 2025, but by then, it is possible to completely transform into a pure electric car, no longer provide fuel power, which means that the current 3 Series (including sedan and wagon) will become the last song.

According to overseas media sources, a source familiar with BMW said that the production of the current 3 Series sedan and wagon is expected to end in 2027, before the new i3 sedan and wagon based on the Neue Klasse new generation platform may be unveiled in 2025.

At the same time, the news also leaked that the new i3 sedan and station wagon internal code are “NA0” and “NA1”, in addition to the possible production in Europe, Hungary and Mexico, South America plant, the probability will also be introduced to China production.

In the domestic market, the new BMW i3 has been launched, with one model priced at 349,900 yuan, largely following the design style of the fuel version, but with dimensions of 4872mm/1846mm/1481mm and a wheelbase of 2966mm, larger and longer than the BMW 3 Series long-wheelbase version.

It is equipped with BMW’s fifth-generation eDrive powertrain with a maximum power of 210kW, peak torque of 400Nm and 0-100km/h acceleration of 6.2 seconds.

Matched with a ternary lithium battery with a capacity of 70.27kWh, the CLTC has a range of 526km and supports fast charging, with 10 minutes to recharge 97km and a charging time of 35 minutes for 10%-80% charge, the car has a top speed of 180km/h.

It is worth noting that although the BMW 3 Series fuel version may become extinct, but as one of BMW’s best-selling SUVs, the BMW X3 will continue to provide fuel versions until the EU member states reach the time point of 2035 to stop selling fuel cars.
