In August this year, Microsoft launched an internal beta test of the Bing Chat plug-in for a small number of users. However, due to performance or quality issues, this feature was quietly offline some time ago.

According to Windows Latest, the problem has been resolved and Bing Chat has restarted testing the third-party plug-in function. Some users have seen this function again last weekend.

Many users have reported that Bing Chat on both desktop and mobile devices has updated support for third-party plug-ins, but this feature only appears in Microsoft Edge Canary, and only five plug-ins are supported in the first batch. A list of plug-ins as follows :

Instacart: This add-on lets you discover recipes and ingredients and interact with "answers" using Bing Chat.

Kayak: This is a plug-in that helps users easily book flights and can be used to plan travel. However, Microsoft is currently unable to place orders directly and can only provide suggestions.

Klarna: Price comparison plug-in that allows US users to compare product price history and multi-platform prices.

 OpenTable: Plugin for restaurant reservations.

Shop: Plugin for comparing prices and buying products.

Additionally, these plugins now run significantly faster. Microsoft previously revealed that its Bing Chat had received infrastructure upgrades to its AI capabilities, which seemed to explain why the plug-in is now performing better.

Microsoft also says that you can only use up to three plug-ins in a conversation. If you want to switch between plugins, you need to open a new conversation topic.

It is worth mentioning that Bing Chat may support more plug-ins in the future. Microsoft has previously said that the new ChatGPT plug-in will be gradually added to Bing, which means you will be able to experience more third-party plug-ins at some point in the future.

Microsoft has recently relaxed the character limit for non-Edge browsers to access Bing Chat. The number of text input by users has increased from 2,000 to 4,000, but each topic conversation is still only Limited to 5 rounds.

Safari

Chrome

It was reported in July this year that Google Chrome and Apple Safari browsers can access Microsoft Bing Chat, but there are two limitations. The first is that the upper limit of user input text is 2,000, while the limit on the Edge browser is 4,000; Second, each topic can only open 5 rounds of sessions, but in the Edge browser, 30 rounds can be opened.

Now Microsoft has relaxed the character limit, chatting with Bing on Chrome and Safari browsers is the same 4000 characters as Edge browser.

Another note is that Bing chat history features and personalized answers (features that rely on previous conversations) are still limited to the Edge browser, and the media believes that Microsoft will gradually relax related restrictions.

Windows enthusiast Leo Varela (@Leopeva64) recently tweeted that three new plug-ins have been added to the Bing Chat test on the Edge browser, namely Adobe Express, MathSolver and Spotify.

It’s just that the above three plug-ins are not currently open to all users. After upgrading the Canary channel Edge browser to the latest version. These three plug-ins have not yet been found. Currently, Microsoft only invites some users to conduct A/B testing. I believe that more updates will be released in the future. Open to multiple users.

  • Adobe Express: Helps users design LOGOs and other images.
  • MathSolver: helps users solve complex math problems and equations
  • Spotify: The plug-in can help users find and play relevant streaming content while chatting with Bing.

At a press conference, Microsoft announced three new Surface products. It also announced that it would deepen its cooperation with OpenAI and introduce support for DALL-E 3 in Bing Chat. Supported, but no specific launch date has been announced.

Microsoft has now invited a very small number of Bing Chat users to test DALL-E 3 to generate images. Foreign technology media Windows Latest found in tests that DALL-E 3 can understand user prompt words more deeply, thereby generating higher-quality works.

Asking Bing to generate an illustration with the prompt “An avocado sitting in a therapy chair saying ‘I feel so empty inside’ with a hole in the middle. Also featuring a therapist, a spoon, and scribbled notes” generated ‘I feel so empty inside’ appears correctly in the illustration.

Attached is a comparison between DALL-E 2 and DALL-E 3 as follows:

The prompt reads “An illustration of an astronaut flying around the moon in space. The moon has the text ‘WindowsLatest.com’ on it.”

Acording to the latest information shared by Windows enthusiast @Leopeva64, Bing Chat has improved the protection of user privacy information. If the chat content involves sensitive information such as account numbers, the relevant chat records will not be saved.

In a tweet, @Leopeva64 shared a screenshot of the dialog box he first saw in the Bing chat panel, titled “This conversation will not be saved.”

The content is as follows: “The reply to you may contain some non-public information. In order to protect your privacy, we will not save the relevant information, but the previous chat history will still be saved.”

Users can click “Got it” to agree to this option. This means that if the user’s chat with Bing involves sensitive content such as account number, bank card information, etc., Microsoft will automatically not save the relevant data after detecting it.

Microsoft in today’s Surface 2023 event, announced the introduction of new features for Bing Chat AI, can be based on the user’s previous chat records, to further optimize the chat content, to provide more personalized answers.

This means that the longer a user chats with Bing, the more Bing can learn about your interests and preferences, and then provide you with more relevant and useful answers based on that information. Of course you can turn this option off if you want to for privacy or other reasons.

In Microsoft’s demo, Bing Chat can track a user’s favorite team. When you ask about your team’s travel plans for whichever city they happen to be playing in, Bing will automatically tailor the answer to your needs.

According to foreign technology media Windows Latest, Microsoft is testing the “Continue on Phone” function on the iOS and Android versions of Bing Chat to ensure that users can seamlessly communicate between desktop and mobile. Chat with Bing.

Microsoft has invited a very small number of users to test the feature by clicking on the “Continue on Phone” pop-up window, which prompts them to “Scan the QR code to continue chatting in the Bing app on mobile” and is accompanied by a QR code.

If the user does not have the Bing app on their phone, they will be directed to install it. The report says the Continue on Phone feature is an alternative to existing historical chats and works in real time, without requiring users to sign in.

Citing tests by the media outlet, reported that at present, even if the Bing app is already installed on the mobile terminal, scanning the QR code will still jump to the Play Store.

Microsoft began to support Bing Chat Enterprise Edition in the Windows Copilot preview version. This new feature will allow eligible business customers to access Bing Chat Enterprise Edition directly from the Windows Copilot panel. , but you need to join the Windows Insider developer channel. The Windows Insider team said today that some Insiders in the Beta channel may also get the feature.

Bing Chat Enterprise is already available for Microsoft 365 business customers on bing.com and in the Edge sidebar, but currently needs to be enabled by an IT administrator. Compared with the regular version of Bing Chat, the enterprise version provides stronger business data protection, chat history will be disabled, and Microsoft will not keep users’ questions and answers, nor will they use them to train its own large language model.

“For your employees, the experience will be very similar to the existing Bing Chat experience—the brand becomes Bing Chat for business, with reminders every time they ask a question and personal and company data is protected.” Windows The Insider team explained.

With the Windows Copilot preview, Windows 11 is getting a new artificial intelligence assistant that can use Bing Chat and Microsoft 365 Copilot right from the desktop. Soon, Windows Copilot will also be able to connect with third-party services through plugins, which ChatGPT already supports.

Windows Copilot is expected to roll out to all users this fall with Windows 11’s 23H2 update, which is currently being tested in the Beta channel. It is noticed that Microsoft will hold an event on September 22 to discuss its latest artificial intelligence innovations, and we may hear more about Windows Copilot at that time.

Microsoft’s server-side quiet update, there are many users who have received Bing.com’s push notification, recommending that users use Microsoft’s Bing search and Bing Chat.

Based on what is known, this pop-up will mainly appear on the desktops of Win11 and Win10 users who have set Google or other search engines as their preferred search engine for Chrome, and users will be reminded of this regardless of what they are doing at the moment, even if they are in full-screen gaming.

This pop-up window is mainly to promote Microsoft Rewards reward points and Bing Chat, it will appear in a variety of Windows 11 settings, such as notification and focus assist function, and will even appear suddenly when the user is playing the game (In fact, full-screen games will be blocked by default all the notifications in the system, so this is quite interesting).

From the picture we can see, “When you search you can earn Microsoft Rewards points rewards. Experience the new Bing, your AI-powered search engine. Install Bing services to improve your search experience.”

After exploring deeper, some users discovered that the pop-up is triggered by the C:\Windows\Temp\MUBSTemp\BGAUpsell.exe file, which happens to be associated with Microsoft Bing Service 2.0, which is designed to enhance Bing’s security on Windows 11 and 10. With this update, Microsoft is transitioning Bing from the less secure SHA-1 algorithm to the more secure SHA-2 algorithm.

As of now, the BGAUpsell.exe file is a legitimate system file in Windows 11 that represents Microsoft-related notifications and can provide various pop-ups to users by communicating with the Microsoft API.

Users have discovered that Microsoft has added a property called “IsEdgeUsedInLast48Hours” to the BGAUpsell.exe file to check when a user last used Microsoft Edge. If Edge has not been used in the last 48 hours, the pop-up may be triggered.

In addition, it seems that Microsoft can not only detect when a user has used Microsoft Edge, but also whether the user is using Google or other search engines in Chrome, and if this is detected, a pop-up alert will also appear.

In fact, Microsoft Windows 11 is often criticized by users for these annoying pop-ups, but it seems that Microsoft is not going to stop.

It’s also worth noting that Microsoft Edge last week flagged the ChromeSetup installer as a harmful program and advised users to continue using Edge.
