Apple has brought a true power-saving mode to the Apple Watch in watchOS 9, which users can enable in the Settings screen or Control Center.

Like iPhone, Apple Watch by default automatically alerts users when the battery drops below 10 percent and lets them choose whether to enter power-saving mode.

Apple explains, “When your Apple Watch battery drops to 10 percent, you’ll be asked if you want to enable power saving mode. When Apple Watch reaches 80 percent charge, it automatically turns off Power Saver.

When Apple Watch enters power saving mode, it automatically turns off the more power-hungry features on Apple Watch, such as Always-On Display, arrhythmias, heart rate notifications for high and low heart rates, heart rate and blood oxygen measurements, and workout reminders.

In power-saving mode, Apple Watch will also automatically turn off Wi-Fi and cellular data connections, incoming calls and app notifications if it detects no bound iPhone nearby.

Apple says, “When Apple Watch enters power saving mode and there’s no iPhone near you, you can open an app and ask for a data connection, and Wi-Fi and cellular will automatically turn on. This consumes a lot of power, of course, and missed calls and notifications are received once every hour in power-saving mode.

In addition to turning off these features, Apple Watch will optimize other features to further reduce power consumption once it enters Power Saver mode, such as reducing the frequency of Siri and app refreshes in the background.

In addition, Apple Watch animations and scrolling may no longer be smooth after going into power saving mode.

With the new Apple Apple Watch Ultra and Apple Watch Series 8 models now arriving to customers, Apple is bringing a lot of smart new features to the wrist. But there are more new features on the way.

Before the end of the year, Apple is offering Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Ultra users a number of additional features, some of which are watchOS 9 features, meaning they’ll even work on older Apple Watch models.

Track detection
Apple will soon launch a new track running experience that automatically detects when users arrive at a track and combines Apple Maps data with GPS to provide a more accurate route map (including the option to select a track) as well as a more accurate pace and distance metrics. Apple said track detection will be available in the U.S. later this year through a software update for the Apple Watch Series 4 and higher models.

Race Routes
Race Routes is a new workout feature designed for runners to race against best or last times on any frequently completed route. The feature will also provide in-session pacing guidance to keep users’ progress competitive. Apple says Race Routes will be available later this year in Apple Watch Series 4 and later.

International Roaming
For cellular Apple Watch models, Apple will soon introduce support for international roaming. Apple said it has reached agreements with 30 carrier partners to support the feature, including Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile in the U.S., Three and O2 in the U.K., and international carriers including China Mobile, Movistar and SoftBank. Apple said the Apple Watch Series 5 and higher Apple said the Apple Watch Series 5 and later cellular models will offer international roaming by the end of this year.

Family Settings – Home Home app support
Family Settings will support the Home app, which will allow children to be invited as members to control HomePod speakers and smart home accessories. Thanks to additional support, kids will also be able to use Home Key and Hotel Key in Apple Wallet.

This feature is dependent on Apple’s new Home architecture, a separate update in the Home app, and will be available in a software update later this year. Please note that sharing control of the home and receiving home notifications requires a Home Hub, and only Apple TV and HomePod are supported as Home Hubs in iOS 16.

Oceanic+ Oceanic app (Apple Watch Ultra)
Developed by Apple in conjunction with third-party company Huish Outdoors, Oceanic+ is a built-in dive computer designed specifically for Apple Watch Ultra devices. Available as a free app on the App Store, Oceanic+ will include depth tracking (including depth alerts), GPS tracking, logbooks (up to 12 dives), snorkeling and more.

For more advanced dive options, such as no decompression limits, users will need to purchase an Oceanic+ subscription plan ($4.99/day, $9.99/month or $79/year). oceanic+ will be available on the App Store later this fall.

Low Power Mode (Apple Watch Ultra)
Apple Watch Ultra has the longest battery life of any Apple Watch, with up to 36 hours during normal use. However, Apple is developing a new low-power setting that can extend battery life to up to 60 hours on a single charge.

Apple Watch users who like to use Spotify to stream music should not update their devices to watchOS 9, because the bug will cause streaming on the watch to stop working.

Spotify Music sent an email to its subscribers warning of the issue, which began shortly after the official push of watchOS 9. Spotify said.

"Apple WatchOS 9 introduces a bug that causes Spotify streaming on Apple Watch to stop working. We strongly urge Spotify Apple Watch users not to install the WatchOS 9 update until Apple resolves the issue. Users who are already affected can download their content to their Apple Watch and listen offline or stream it from their phone."

According to user reports, streaming on Apple Watch stops working within the first minute, but the track progress bar continues to move, just minus the audio. both Wi-Fi and cellular connections have issues, but Spotify media downloaded to Apple Watch has no issues.

Apple has released watchOS 9.1 Beta for developers this week, and there are unconfirmed reports that the Spotify streaming issue has been resolved. However, Apple did not mention the issue in its release notes, so we won’t know for sure if the bug has been resolved until Apple rolls out the next Apple Watch update to the public.

Apple has released watchOS 9 to the public, bringing new features to Apple’s flagship wearable device, such as a new medication tracker, new watch dials and more fitness options. watchOS 9 was announced at WWDC 2022 and is now available to the public. Users can update to watchOS 9 by visiting the iOS Watch app and navigating to the “General” page, followed by Software Update.

It can also be installed automatically by the app if set up correctly. Apple Watch must be at least 50% charged, placed on the charger, and within the communication range of the iPhone to install the update.

The list of updates is as follows.

Customization

Apple has introduced three new watch dial designs in watchOS 9, Metropolitan, Lunar and Playtime.

Playtime is a whimsical watch for children, while Metropolitan is a highly customizable model inspired by traditional timepieces.

Lunar, on the other hand, depicts the relationship between the lunar and Gregorian calendars.

In addition, the astronomical face has been reworked to accommodate the larger display, which now uses cloud data from the weather to show real-time cloud cover. Finally, the portrait interface has improved depth effects for a broader range of topics.

New Health Features

Apple introduced a new medication tracker designed to help users keep track of the medications they are taking and when they are taking them. In addition, it shows how certain medications interact with each other.

The Sleep app has also expanded the metrics it tracks. Users can now view their rapid eye movement, core and deep sleep data. In addition, users can track their sleep over time with heart rate, breathing and exercise data.

Fitness

As expected, Apple has expanded the fitness features of the Apple Watch in the new watchOS release.

The Workout app will show more views during a workout if the user turns the digital crown. The view will change between the activity ring, heart rate zone, power and elevation.

Heart Rate Zone is a new feature in watchOS that shows users the intensity of their workout. Zones are calculated automatically based on health data, but can also be configured manually by the user.

Workouts can now be customized with recovery zones. Throughout the workout, Apple Watch alerts the user to pace, heart rate, stride length and power.
