Apple today released the Safari Technology Preview 165 update, an experimental browser that Apple has been rolling out since March 2016. Apple designed Safari Technology Preview to test features that may be introduced into future versions of Safari.

The current “Safari Technology Preview” release is built on the Safari 16 update and includes support for features in macOS 13 Ventura, such as live text, passkeys, Web extension improvements, and more.

Safari Technology Preview 165 includes bug fixes and performance improvements for Web Inspector, CSS, JavaScript, Layout, Media, Forms, Web Animations, WebCrypto, WebGL, Loading, Web APIs, Accessibility and Web Extensions.

The current Safari Technology Preview is version 16.4 and is compatible with devices running macOS 13 Ventura and macOS 12 Monterey. However, it is no longer available for macOS Big Sur.

Anyone who has downloaded the browser can get the Safari Technology Preview update through the Software Update mechanism in System Settings.

Safari Technology Preview was introduced by Apple to gather feedback from developers and users about the development process for its browser, which runs alongside the existing Safari browser and is designed for developers but does not require a developer account to use.
