Apple today in its YouTube channel to share a new “Study With Me” (Study With Me) theme promotional video, invited the actress who starred in the “Excessive”, the University of Southern California student Storm Reid (Storm Reid) to star, mainly in order to promote the MacBook Air.

Apple doesn’t positively promote and introduce the 15-inch MacBook Air in the 90-minute video, but only promotes the laptop in the video description,

Translation as below:

The 90-minute Study With Me, starring Reid, is designed to keep you focused on your studies and away from distractions.

Reid uses the tomato method, taking 5-minute breaks for every 25 minutes of studying, in a cycle of 3. You can follow these breaks or adjust them to suit you.

She likes to use her 15-inch MacBook Air when she studies, relaxing soft music to keep her attention, and a few relaxation techniques of her own.

Reid uses 15-inch MacBook Air with a 15-inch Liquid Retina display and M2 chip, which is a powerful tool for multitasking no matter what you're studying. It has up to 18 hours of battery life (battery life varies by use), six speakers for immersive spatial audio, and is available in four colors.

According to the latest video released by the YouTube channel Max Tech, the 15-inch MacBook Air notebook with 256GB of storage is equipped with only one NAND chip, which affects read and write performance.

The 15-inch MacBook Air is available in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB storage sizes, and the 256GB model retains Apple’s “tradition” of having a lower performance SSD than the base version, just like the Mac mini and 13-inch MacBook Pro. Like the Mac mini and 13-inch MacBook Pro, the base version has a lower-performance SSD than the other models.

Apple’s previous 256GB version of the Mac used two 128GB chips, but the latest model uses a single 256GB chip instead:

Because Macs temporarily use SSDs as virtual memory after using physical memory, slower SSD speeds can affect tasks such as file transfers and can impact overall system performance under intensive workload conditions.

Apple’s 15-inch MacBook Air went on sale yesterday, June 13, and is available in Midnight, Star, Silver and Deep Sky Gray, starting at RMB 10,499 for the domestic version and RMB 9,699 for the education offer.

The phone market is not expected to recover until the second half of the year at the earliest. Major chip manufacturers are generally betting on 2024. Among them, MediaTek and Qualcomm are planning to launch new products made of TSMC’s 4 nanometers in the second half of this year. Only Apple has entered the 3nm generation, and it will be installed in the iPhone 15 series in the second half of this year, leading other phone chip factories.

According to China Taiwan’s “Business Times”, Apple’s new MacBook Air, iPad Air/Pro and other product lines are expected to be mass-produced using TSMC’s 3nm N3E process, and the terminal products are expected to be unveiled in the second half of this year or the first half of next year. According to the supply chain, the new phone chips that Qualcomm and MediaTek plan to launch in the second half of this year will continue to use TSMC’s 4-nanometer process for mass production, while the 3-nanometer process may not be adopted until next year.

Although Apple was also simultaneously affected by the cold winter in the consumer market, iPhone revenue in the fourth quarter of last year fell by 8.2% year-on-year, becoming Apple’s first iPhone revenue recession in seven years. But Apple did not stop the process from advancing.

According to previous reports, Apple has contracted almost all 3nm production capacity of TSMC this year, and is expected to enter trial production at the end of the second quarter of this year, and start production in the third quarter, becoming the only three major phone chip manufacturers in the world to advance to 3nm The manufacturer of the process.

Foreign technology media 9to5Mac recently took stock of information related to the MacBook notebook lineup with OLED panels. The report points out that the first product with an OLED panel is the MacBook Air, which Apple is expected to launch in 2024.

Why did Apple choose OLED?

Apple’s MacBook lineup currently uses both LCD and mini-LED panel materials. The MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro use LCD screens; the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro use mini-LED screens.

Apple plans to change the iPad Pro panel material from mini-LED to OLED next year, while the MacBook is slightly different.

The first MacBook device with an OLED panel

Rose Young, CEO of screen supply chain consulting firm DSCC, said the first MacBook to switch to an OLED display will be the MacBook Air, while the MacBook Pro will continue to use mini-LED panels in the coming years.

Ross Young said Apple plans to launch new MacBook Air 13-inch, iPad Pro 11-inch and 12.9-inch models with OLED displays in 2024.

Ross Young did not share additional details, but earlier this year he said all three devices will have “two layers” of OLED displays with two red, green and blue emitting layers to increase brightness and reduce power consumption. Ross Young previously said that all three devices will also support ProMotion, which allows for refresh rates of up to 120Hz.

Apple Macbook Air 2024

Another senior analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, also said Samsung Display (SDC) plans to significantly boost OLED panel shipments for laptops in 2023, aiming for a 70% YoY increase to 6-7 million units in 2023.

Kuo explained why Apple chose the MacBook Air over the MacBook Pro. Kuo said, “Laptops with OLEDs offer the advantage of being thinner and lighter than mini-LEDs, and offer more diverse form factor options.

Being thin and light is far more important for the MacBook Air than it is for the MacBook Pro. This allows Apple to focus on upgrading the display technology in the MacBook Air before choosing to upgrade to the MacBook Pro.

The report also says Apple will use “tandem stack” OLED panel technology. This technology can extend the life of the display, improve power efficiency and increase brightness.

In a press release released today, Kensington brought privacy protection solutions to IT, business and home office professionals who use Apple products, and launched 3 ultra-thin magnetic suction screen protection Spectrum.

Kensington has previously launched ultra-thin magnetic screen privacy protection sheets for the 13-inch MacBook Pro / Air, 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro. The prices on Apple’s official website are 428 RMB, 498 RMB and 518 RMB.

Kensington reintroduced today the SA270 Privacy Screen (model K50740WW) for the Apple Studio Display, the SA240 Privacy Screen (model K55170WW) for the 24-inch iMac, and the MagPro™ Elite Magnetic Privacy Screen (model K55170WW) for the MacBook Air 2022 (model K58374WW).

Overview:

Kensington’s ultra-thin magnetic privacy screen adheres completely to the magnetic frame of your MacBook Pro without the need for inconvenient adhesive stickers. The device can still be fully closed with the screen privacy sheet installed, and the viewing angle will be reduced to +/-30°, reducing the possibility of unauthorized prying eyes and reducing harmful blue light and glare.

With the rise of hybrid working models, the modern workplace is no longer limited to a single location where security can be easily ensured. Users can work from anywhere, increasing the risk of prying eyes. Ideal for Apple MacBook Pro owners, this screen privacy flap allows quick access without blocking the laptop from fully closing for sleep mode.

Highlights:

The screen privacy foil attaches smoothly, quickly and easily to the MacBook Pro frame using magnets, and removes just as easily.

With the privacy screen attached, your MacBook Pro can still be fully closed to enter sleep mode.

The limited viewing angle narrows the field of view to +/- 30 degrees, keeping information on screen private.

Filters up to 30% of harmful rays, reduces blue light damage, relieves eye strain and reduces the chance of blue light interrupting your natural sleep patterns.

Low-reflection coating reduces glare from external light sources for improved viewing clarity.

Flip to switch between two viewing options: one side has a matte finish to reduce glare and fingerprints, and the other has a glossy finish for clearer viewing of the display.

According to the latest data released by market research firm Counterpoint Research, global PC shipments in the fourth quarter of 2022 were 65.2 million units, down 27.8 percent year-over-year. Apple withstood the severe test of the market plunge, shipping 7 million units, down just 3 percent year-on-year.

In the report, Apple reported relatively stable shipments throughout 2022 and continued to eat into the market share of x86 vendors. Apple’s market share reached double digits in the second half of 2022 and 9.4 percent for the full year 2022.

The market for Mac devices with Apple’s own Apple Silicon chips is performing well. Apple updated its 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air with the M2 chip in 2022, and shipped 7 million Mac devices in the fourth quarter of 2022, compared to 7.2 million in the fourth quarter of 2021. Although such results do not look impressive at first glance, compared to HP and Lenovo’s 20%-30% decline, such performance is very bright.

According to a DigiTimes report, Apple plans to release a new MacBook Air in the second half of 2023, and it could come with a 3nm chip.

The chip could be Apple’s next-generation M3 chip, which will offer faster performance and higher power efficiency compared to Apple’s current 5nm chip.

The report cites industry sources as saying, “The supply chain is more focused on a more affordable MacBook Air, expected to be updated in the second half of 2023 and possibly with a 3nm processor.” The report did not provide any additional details about the MacBook Air or a more specific release schedule.

Apple’s chip manufacturing partner TSMC began mass production of 3nm chips in late December 2022, and the M3 chip in the next-generation MacBook Air could be one of the first 3nm chips Apple launches later this year, along with the A17 Bionic chip in the iPhone 15 Pro.

Earlier this week, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros will also feature the 3nm M3 Pro and M3 Max chips in 2024.

In addition, multiple sources indicate that Apple is internally developing a 15-inch MacBook Air with an M2 Pro chip and 67W power adapter, also with a bangscreen.

The current M2 chip-equipped MacBook Air was released in July 2022 with a new design that features a bangs screen, MagSafe charging, a 1080p camera and more. Apple is also continuing to sell the MacBook Air with the M1 chip.
