Apple Inc. had a surprisingly good first quarter in 2023, with the average selling price of its phones reaching $988 (currently about RMB That figure is also close to the psychological $1,000 mark, showing the strength of Apple’s phones in the high-end market.

According to a new report from market research firm CIRP, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are the most popular models of Apple phones, accounting for nearly half of total sales. The relatively high price of these two models, in addition to increasing user demand for phone storage space, has led more people to choose phones with higher capacities, further raising the average selling price.

CIRP analysts noted that it is highly unusual for Apple to achieve an increase in the average selling price in a quarter that is typically less than ideal. Typically, Apple’s average selling price peaks in September and December each year, when new phones are released and holiday sales take place. However, Apple has managed to attract more users to high-end phones by optimizing its product portfolio and offering an extensive recycling program.

CIRP believes that the high recycling value of Apple phones is also supported by strong demand in the global used iPhone market. This has both lowered the cost of buying new phones and implicitly encouraged users to buy higher-end models, as they believe these phones will retain their value better.

Apple has introduced a car accident detection function in the iPhone 14 / Pro series mobile phones, which is designed to automatically contact emergency services when a collision is detected.

Car crash detection is available on Apple iPhone 14/Pro series models and the latest Apple Watch. Using sensors like accelerometers and gyroscopes, the feature can detect serious crashes and automatically call emergency services if the user doesn’t respond to the alert within 20 seconds.

This function can indeed save lives in emergency situations, but there have been many complaints that it can also be triggered accidentally during skiing, rides, and other non-emergency activities.

Apple has refined collision detection in the last few iOS 16 updates to reduce false positives. In the recently updated car accident detection support document, Apple also changed its advice to users when making an accidental call, instead of hanging up the phone, but explaining to emergency responders that no help is needed.

Apple also removed content from the support document that advised users to cancel calls during the 20-second timer — “If you do not need to contact emergency services, tap Cancel and confirm that you do not need emergency services.”

In other words, Apple hopes that users who make emergency calls by mistake will get through the phone and tell them that they don’t need help, instead of hanging up by themselves.

Breaking source Majin Bu claims that Apple plans to offer two additional color cases for the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max as part of its upcoming spring collection. The new color options include Deep Violet and Golden Brown. Existing color options for the iPhone 14 series cases include Amber, Forest Green, Ink, Midnight and Orange. One of the new features of the iPhone 14 Pro is the Always-On display, which reduces the refresh rate to 1Hz when the phone is not in use. users can quickly check the time and small items on the lock screen even when the screen is “off”. Tools. There is no denying that this feature will have an impact on battery life, and Apple will soon let users know about the power consumption of the Always-On display.

Even with optimizations such as reducing the screen refresh rate to 1Hz when the screen is not in use, displaying elements on the screen is still more power-hungry than not displaying anything.

Since the release of the iPhone 14 Pro, many users have shared their tests online to compare the power consumption when the all-weather display is enabled, and now Apple will provide this data directly in the iOS 16.4 system.

9to5Mac discovered in the iOS 16.4 beta code released to developers today that Apple is adding data about the battery consumption of the 24/7 display feature in the Settings app. This means that users will see a new category in the battery menu dedicated to the 24/7 display, similar to the specific categories it already shows for things like personal hotspot and no-signal coverage.

It’s too early to say for sure if the feature has been enabled in this beta, as it’s likely to be at least a few hours before iOS has enough stats to detail the battery consumption figures shown 24/7.

According to some comparative tests, the all-weather display feature can drain 20% of an iPhone 14 Pro’s battery in 24 hours. If the user chooses to enable the 24/7 display but does not use the wallpaper, the phone will consume about 14% of the battery at the same time.

Taiwan Economic Daily said that Apple’s foundry Pegatron has passed the audit and successfully won higher-end iPhone 14 Pro assembly orders, and even started mass shipments in January this year, and is expected to continue to receive new models. Orders for high-end models of the iPhone 15 Po series.

The current iPhone 14 Pro production line of the Pegatron Shanghai Changshuo plant has stabilized, and the production will increase month by month in February and March this year.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro

In January of this year, Pegatron’s revenue was NT$124.608 billion (currently approximately RMB 28.161 billion), a month-on-month increase of 10.50% and a year-on-year increase of 1.19%, a record high for the same period of the year and better than market expectations. Pegatron pointed out that the increase in revenue in January was mainly due to the communication business.

According to the Economic Daily, the market expects that Pegatron’s revenue will rise against the trend in January this year, mainly due to the drive of the old Apple iPhone 13 and the transfer of some iPhone 14 Pro orders.

Looking forward to this year, Pegatron believes that overall operations will grow slightly, but new businesses such as automotive electronics and communication products are expected to continue to grow.

Pegatron initially received some iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus assembly orders from Apple last year and was the main foundry for the iPhone 14 Plus. However, under the influence of Apple’s high pricing, the overall sales of the iPhone 14 Plus were poor, which also dragged down the performance of the main foundry Pegatron in the fourth quarter of last year.

The industry believes that when the production capacity of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max of Hon Hai, the largest iPhone foundry, was affected, Apple considered starting a wider range of diversified production at that time, and released some high-end orders to Pegatron and Luxshare Precision. This avoids production risks, which also gives Pegatron and Luxshare Precision an opportunity. It seems that Pegatron has successfully seized this opportunity.
