According to a recent report from research firm TrendForce, Apple plans to stop all production of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with mini-LED backlight in 2024.

Based on previous reports, Apple is preparing to launch an iPad Pro model with a 13-inch OLED screen next year. The similar 12.9-inch iPad Pro won’t remain in the lineup with a price cut after that model launches.

Mini LED laptop shipments are expected to decline by approximately 39% year-on-year. At the same time, as the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is expected to be discontinued in 2024, shipments of Mini LED tablets are expected to decline by approximately 15.6% year-on-year, making these two products the only applications expected to decline.

In December 2022, display industry analyst Ross Young said the 12.9-inch iPad Pro would be replaced by a slightly larger 13-inch OLED model.

Subsequently, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also said that the new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models will be released next year and will use OLED displays, M3 chips and aluminum Magic Keyboards.

OLED technology will enable the next-generation iPad Pro to have higher brightness, contrast, color accuracy and lower power consumption than existing models with LCD panels.

Ross Young said that Apple will use a very thin hybrid OLED display that combines flexible and rigid materials, which may make the next iPad Pro design even thinner and lighter.

Existing iPad Pro models support ProMotion variable refresh rate, allowing adjustment between 24Hz and 120Hz, while new OLED models may further reduce the lower limit of the refresh rate to 10Hz or lower, thus helping to improve battery life (Note: iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro can reach a minimum of 1Hz).

In addition to the two iPad Pros mentioned above, Apple is expected to update the iPad Air, iPad mini and entry-level iPad in 2024, but these models are unlikely to use OLED screens, and most likely they will just upgrade the chips.

Apple today updated the Pages, Numbers and Keynote office productivity applications for the iPad. The biggest improvement is the support for Apple Pencil hovering.

Apple officials said that users using the above applications on the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro can more easily navigate, write, draw sketches and illustrations, etc. by hovering.

The second-generation Apple Pencil on the latest iPad Pro models supports hovering up to 12 mm above the screen, allowing users to preview their drawings before drawing.

Another useful hover feature for users is to use the Doodle feature. On an iPad, if you want to convert your handwriting to text, use the Apple Pencil to hover over the screen and the text field will automatically expand.

It was previously reported that Apple Pencil gained tilt and azimuth support in iPadOS 16.4. Apple discussed the feature in a recent interview.

References found by 9to5Mac on Logitech’s website include the sixth-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro and the fourth-generation 11-inch iPad Pro, both of which are expected to be available next month. The reference doesn’t provide details about the new products, but says they’re “coming soon”.

new iPad and Mac are expected to be unveiled.

Logitech includes the unreleased iPad in its list of iPads supported by the Crayon Digital Pencil, which is the only integrated third-party stylus available that is similar to the Apple Pencil. As 9to5Mac points out, these references may have some accuracy given the close relationship between Logitech and Apple.

The new 12.9-inch and 11-inch iPad Pros are not expected to undergo any major redesign and will instead benefit from the M2 chip. Early rumors suggested that the 11-inch model would come with a new mini-LED display, but that’s not expected to happen. Other revelations hint that the iPad Pro will feature some form of MagSafe magnetic charging.

On top of that, Apple has confirmed that a major release of iPadOS 16.1 will arrive in October, with support for multitasking features such as front-of-house scheduling.
