Apple today announced that its Satellite Emergency SOS feature has been expanded to six European countries, including Austria, Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Portugal. The service requires users to update to the latest iOS 16.4 system in order to use it in these countries.

Satellite Emergency SOS allows iPhone 14 Series phones to send text messages to emergency centers for assistance via Globalstar satellite when cellular and Wi-Fi signals are not available. The service is free for two years after activating iPhone 14 and will begin today for customers in newly supported countries.

Apple said that in the newly supported countries, if a user calls the local emergency services phone number and cannot be reached due to lack of network connectivity, the system will automatically transfer to 112, the European unified emergency number.

Apple also reminds users that sending text messages may take longer or fail because satellite signals may be affected by foliage or other obstructions, and that satellite connections may not be available in areas above 62 degrees north latitude, such as parts of Canada and Alaska.

The satellite emergency distress feature was first introduced in the U.S. and Canada in November and is currently only available on four models – iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max – with the service expanding to France, Germany, Ireland and the U.K. in December.

Foreign technology media 9to5Mac by digging deep into the iOS 16.4 RC version of the system code, found a yet to be released “Beats Studio Buds +”earphones.

By digging into the system code, the media found that the “Beats Studio Buds+” earphones, like the Beats Studio Buds released in 2021, have active noise cancellation and pass-through mode.

The media found that the earphones support features such as Hey Siri from the code, and initially the media thought they would use the W1 / H1 chips that are exclusive to Apple’s AirPods, but subsequent communication with the source indicated that the new Beats Studio Buds+ will still use the custom Beats chips instead of Apple’s H1 / H2.

One of the features missing from the Beats Studio Buds compared to the AirPods is in-ear detection. This means that Beats Studio Buds will not automatically play and pause content when you take them out or put them in your ears.

Beats Studio Buds also don’t support automatic device switching and won’t sync your paired devices in iCloud, so you’ll need to connect them manually on each new device.

Apple today pushed out a second Rapid Security Response (RSR) update for iOS 16.4 / macOS 13.3, which is the fourth RSR update since Apple introduced the Rapid Security Response update mechanism.

Apple intends to use Rapid Security Response updates in the future to quickly address security vulnerabilities that have been identified and are being actively exploited. This way Apple can not need to wait for regular updates and then push them to users, but can quickly fix for certain vulnerabilities.

This update appears in the same location as the normal update and can be found in the Settings app. This update appears as iOS Security Response 16.4 (b) and macOS Security Response 13.3 (b).

Users who trigger the Security Response update can revert to a previous iOS or macOS version during this test. Apple tested this feature in a previous Beta release.

Apple launched the first beta update of iOS 16.4 two weeks ago, and foreign tech media The Verifier found that Siri on HomePod will soon support Hebrew by digging deeper into the relevant code. This also hints that HomePod may be available in Israel.

Siri on iPhone and iPad already supports Hebrew, but support has not been added on HomePod.

Apple typically adds support for languages in that market to Siri before the HomePod ships. For example, Apple added Norwegian and Swedish language support to Siri in the HomePod 15.6 update, released in July 2022. Apple launched the HomePod mini in Norway, Sweden and Finland in December.

Apple has not launched any HomePod models in Israel so far, and the media believes that judging from the code, Apple will launch HomePod in Israel.

Apple has not set up an offline or online Apple Store in Israel, so it may sell HomePod and HomePod mini through authorized resellers.

Apple launched the first developer preview of iOS / iPadOS 16.4 yesterday and followed up again today with the first public beta.

Users who have signed up for the Apple Developer Program should receive a push of the update from Apple after checking for updates. Notably, future beta updates will be linked to the Apple IDs of developers and public beta testers, the last time Apple will push out a public beta in this traditional manner.

This new option is automatically enabled on devices that have registered for the program and updated to the latest beta version. Your iPhone or iPad must be signed in with the same Apple ID you used to sign up for the Apple DeveloperProgram in order to see this option in Settings. It is important to note that in future versions of iOS and iPadOS, this new setting will be the way to enable the Developer Beta and the configuration descriptor will no longer grant access.

One of the new features of the iPhone 14 Pro is the Always-On display, which reduces the refresh rate to 1Hz when the phone is not in use. users can quickly check the time and small items on the lock screen even when the screen is “off”. Tools. There is no denying that this feature will have an impact on battery life, and Apple will soon let users know about the power consumption of the Always-On display.

Even with optimizations such as reducing the screen refresh rate to 1Hz when the screen is not in use, displaying elements on the screen is still more power-hungry than not displaying anything.

Since the release of the iPhone 14 Pro, many users have shared their tests online to compare the power consumption when the all-weather display is enabled, and now Apple will provide this data directly in the iOS 16.4 system.

9to5Mac discovered in the iOS 16.4 beta code released to developers today that Apple is adding data about the battery consumption of the 24/7 display feature in the Settings app. This means that users will see a new category in the battery menu dedicated to the 24/7 display, similar to the specific categories it already shows for things like personal hotspot and no-signal coverage.

It’s too early to say for sure if the feature has been enabled in this beta, as it’s likely to be at least a few hours before iOS has enough stats to detail the battery consumption figures shown 24/7.

According to some comparative tests, the all-weather display feature can drain 20% of an iPhone 14 Pro’s battery in 24 hours. If the user chooses to enable the 24/7 display but does not use the wallpaper, the phone will consume about 14% of the battery at the same time.
