]]> After the release of the iPhone 14 series this year, it caused more controversy than ever before, especially because the same generation of phones actually used two chips, and the standard version was actually equipped with last year’s old A15 chip. A large number of users have questioned Apple. The iPhone 14, which starts at 5,999 yuan, is already priced at the top of the mobile product range, with a much higher starting price than even the high-end Android representative Huawei Mate50.

But after the latest iPhone 14 series cost data was revealed, it dawned on everyone.

According to the latest teardown estimates, the iPhone 14 Pro Max will cost around $501 (about RMB 3,565) to produce this year, more than $60 more than the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

And the A16 chip is the most significant reason for the rise, at a whopping $110 (about RMB 780), it’s already more than 2.4 times the price of the iPhone 13 Pro Series A15 chip.

So converted, the iPhone 14 Pro series is instead priced a bit more conscientiously by Apple, with relatively lower profits. It is important to note that this 2.4x increase in cost has not been matched by an increase in performance, with the A16 ending up with less than 20% improvement over the A15, which is fully reflected in the score results.

The iPhone 14 Pro scored a maximum of 952,000 points, compared to 833,000 points for the iPhone 13 Pro, an improvement of only 14%, according to the AnTuTu rankings for iOS devices in September.

And a big part of that limited score improvement is the upgrade that comes with upgrading the memory from LPDDR4X to LPDDR5.

]]> An early test report of the new Apple A16 chipset has started surfacing online. The test reports give us an early glimpse at the performance of the chipset and the chipset surprisingly brings a noticeable improvement in the performance as compared to the predecessor Apple A15. The results which are hovering online are reportedly taken from the Apple iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max smartphones.

Apple A16 brings an impressive +28% improvement in GPU score 

According to the latest AnTuTu score released for the Apple iPhone 14 Pro, the device has managed to score a total of 978,147 and the top of the line iPhone 14 Pro Max has managed to score 972,936. The scores may also be got impacted because of the upgraded 6GB RAM capacity.

Looking at the reports, the CPU performance increased by a respectable 17%, while the memory score increased by 10%. It’s the GPU that really stands out, with a 28% improvement over the previous generation. We’re surprised Apple didn’t mention it during the presentation; this could be the most significant generational improvement in recent years.

In comparison, early AnTuTu results for the iPhone 13 Pros last year showed a 17% increase in CPU score and a 19% increase in GPU score over the 12 Pro generation. Last year, the memory score wowed with a 44% increase. The iPhone 14 Pro pair tested had 1TB of storage, giving it a slight advantage over models with smaller capacities.
