Apple launched the sixth-generation iPad mini in September 2021 and made a major design upgrade for the series. Foreign technology media MacRumors believes in the latest article that Apple has no urgent need to upgrade the iPad mini, and may choose to launch the seventh-generation iPad mini next year.

The sixth-generation iPad mini uses the A15 Bionic chip. Although Apple has lowered the frequency of the chip on the iPad mini, its performance is at the same level as that of the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, third-generation iPhone SE, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, and third-generation Apple TV 4K.

Apple expects to continue selling these six devices with the A15 Bionic chip throughout 2023, which means Apple hopes to extend the life of the A15. The sixth-generation iPad mini supports the second-generation Apple Pencil, and there’s no pressing need for Apple to upgrade the device.

While Apple refreshed the iPad mini every year from 2012 to 2016, updates since then have become more infrequent, with just one minor refresh in March 2019 before a 2021 redesign. Apple has apparently lengthened the update cycle of the iPad mini line, which means that Apple may choose to launch the seventh-generation iPad mini next year.

The Apple iPad mini 6 was released in September 2021, starting at 3,799 CNY for the first time, and it has risen to 3,999 CNY in October last year.

In terms of screen, the new generation of iPad mini adopts an ultra-portable design and is equipped with a larger 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display with a screen brightness of up to 500 nits, supports P3 wide color gamut, anti-reflective screen coating, true color display technology, full The laminated display, etc., adopts a full-screen design and integrates Touch ID into the top button.

The iPad mini is equipped with the new A15 Bionic chip, with a 40% increase in CPU and up to 80% increase in GPU performance, making it the most powerful iPad mini ever. In addition, the machine also offers a 5G cellular version, and the 5G model has a download speed of up to 3.5 Gbps.

Just months ago, famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi-Kuo claimed that the iPhone 14 series will have four devices. But among these four, only two of the iPhone 14 Pro models will have the latest A16 Bionic chip. The rest of the devices will be powered by the older A15 Bionic chip with some tweaks. TrendForce has confirmed this claim.

In a report by TrendForce, it was mentioned that “unlike the previous offerings, only the latest processors are employed in the Pro Series of the iPhone 14”. When it comes to the iPhone 13 series, the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 Mini used the A15 Bionic chip paired with 4GB of RAM and a four-core GPU. On the other hand, the Pro models were also powered by the A15 Bionic chip but paired with 6GB of RAM  and a five-core GPU. This year’s iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will reportedly have the same chip but with increased RAM and enhanced GPU power.

Now, the reason behind this sort of chip structure with the new iPhone series is probably due to the industry-wide supply chain shortage. Hence, Apple will not be able to provide the same upgraded chip to the lower iPhone 14 models. So, Apple is putting the latest A16 Bionic chip in the expensive Pro models.

Still, whatever the reason is, Two of the iPhones will still be using the older A15 chip. However, the A15 chips are not bad chips. They have the power to compete with the latest processors. So, it is not the deal-breaker as it may sound like one.
