Omdia’s latest IT OLED Display Forecast report shows that global OLED display shipments will grow dramatically from 9.7 million units to over 70 million units between 2022 and 2028. This growth will be primarily driven by demand for laptops and tablets, with Apple’s widespread use of OLED displays set to be a big factor.

Omdia’s forecast is consistent with other rumours, Omdia believes that Apple will use OLED displays on the iPad Pro starting next year, and then launch the OLED MacBook Pro in 2026. Apple will largely phase out LCD and mini-LED displays on mobile devices by 2026.

In 2027, Apple will also start making 32-inch and 42-inch displays using QD-OLED or WOLED panels, possibly for future iMacs or external monitors. At present, Apple only has a product with a 32-inch display, the Pro Display XDR, and there is no 42-inch device.
