Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max outperformed other flagship smartphones, including the Google Pixel 7 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, in a recent smartphone battery life test.

PhoneArena conducted battery life tests on some of the most popular flagship smartphones on the market today, including Google’s new Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro and the older Pixel 6 Pro. In the first part of the test, each phone was put on an emulator that replicated typical web browsing. The Apple iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max were the winners of this specific test. The endurance results are as follows.

  • Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max: 19 hours 5 minutes
  • Apple iPhone 14 Pro: 16 hours 18 minutes
  • Google Pixel 7 Pro: 14 hours 19 minutes
  • Google Pixel 7: 13 hours 56 minutes
  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: 13 hours 17 minutes
  • Google Pixel 6 Pro: 13 hours 13 minutes

The second part of the test involved each phone playing back the same YouTube video until the battery ran out. According to the video, each phone started at 100% brightness level. The endurance results are as follows.

  • Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max: 11 hours 0 minutes
  • Google Pixel 7 Pro: 9 hours and 39 minutes
  • Apple iPhone 14 Pro: 9 hours 14 minutes
  • Google Pixel 7: 9 hours 13 minutes
  • Google Pixel 6 Pro: 9 hours 10 minutes
  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: 7 hours 27 minutes

By the numbers, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max last the longest and should have the largest physical capacity batteries, but that’s not the case.

In fact, compared to the Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 6 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, the iPhone 14 Pro has the smallest battery capacity. The iPhone 14 Pro Max also has a smaller battery compared to other large flagships, despite getting the longest battery life in all tests. Here are the phone battery capacities.

  • Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max: 4323mAh
  • Apple iPhone 14 Pro: 3200mAh
  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: 5000mAh
  • Google Pixel 7 Pro: 5000mAh
  • Google Pixel 7: 4355mAh
  • Google Pixel 6 Pro: 5000mAh

After months of testing, Apple released the official version of iOS 16 to all users this week. As of now, the official version is the same as the Release Candidate (RC) that was released a week ago. However, according to a new report, the iPhone 14 series will receive the iOS 16 update when it arrives, even though it comes with iOS 16 pre-installed itself.

@appleeswupdates notes that iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro come with iOS 16. However, once users activate their new iPhone for the first time, they will be prompted to install the latest version of iOS 16 (20A362).

According to Apple’s release notes written specifically for the iPhone 14 / Pro series, the iOS 16 first-day update simply fixes a bug that could cause some photos to look blurry when zoomed in on the landscape.

In addition, AppleSWUpdates also revealed that Apple Apple Watch Series 8 also received a software update on the first day.

This is actually not the first time Apple has pre-installed a new system in a new machine that differs from the publicly released version, as the company needs to get everything ready a few weeks before the official release and then make sure that the new machine is shipped with the latest operating system already installed.

According to 9to5Mac’s analysis, most of the files in the iOS 16.0 release were compiled between Aug. 6 and Aug. 9. On the other hand, the pre-installed firmware in iPhone 14 was compiled a few days later, on August 18.

The first people to pre-order iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Series 8 will get their new devices on Friday, September 16. Once you have one of the new devices, all you need to do is turn on Software Update and install the latest version of iOS or watchOS.

Apple has announced that it will hold a special “Far Out” event. The event will still be held online and is expected to bring new products such as the iPhone 14 / Pro series, Apple Watch Series 8, and the launch of iOS 16.

Now tipsters are showing off the new iPhone 14 series in leather and silicone case colors, plus a larger version of the regular iPhone 14 Max may actually be called iPhone 14 Plus.

Twitter user Majin Bu showed off the colors of the iPhone 14 Pro Leather Case and iPhone 14 Silicone Case ahead of the Apple event. The leather case includes a bright orange, coffee, golden brown, midnight blue, black, and fir green, and the silicone case includes midnight black, succulent green, light pink, red, lilac purple, morning glory yellow, storm blue, and fuchsia. But the real color names still need to be determined.

There are reports that iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus (or iPhone 14 Max) will be available in the following colors: green, purple, blue, black, white, and red. The previous iPhone 13 series was available in red, starlight, midnight, blue, and pink. This means Apple plans to drop pink this year. The “black” in the leaked case could be Midnight, and the “white” could be Starlight.

The same report states that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be available in green, purple, graphite, silver and gold.

Apple will announce the new iPhone 14 series at its “Super Forecast” event on September 8. The new lineup will include the 6.1-inch iPhone 14, 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus (or iPhone 14 Max), 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. The new lineup will mark the end of the road for the 5.4-inch “mini The new lineup will mark the end of the road for the 5.4-inch “mini” form factor, which has only been released in two generations: iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini.

Apple is expected to announce the Apple Watch Series 8, the faster Apple Watch SE 2, and the new rugged Apple Watch Pro. According to Gurman, the AirPods Pro 2 is also expected to be announced during the event.

Tianfeng International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo just tweeted that he predicts the ultra-wide angle camera on both iPhone 14 Pro models will be upgraded to 1.4µm (vs. 1.0µm on iPhone 13 Pro).

Kuo also said that CIS (image sensor), VCM (voice coil motor), and CCM (camera module) will see large price increases of 70%, 45%, and 40% respectively, while other components will see limited price increases. Sony (CIS), Minebea (VCM first supply), Largan (VCM second supply) and LG Innotek (CCM) are the significant beneficiaries of the ultra-wide angle camera upgrade.

The new ultra-wide-angle camera for the iPhone 13 Pro features a 1/3.4-inch sensor with an f / 1.8 aperture and a unit pixel size of 1.0µm. If the ultra-wide angle camera for the iPhone 14 Pro does get upgraded to 1.4µm, it will hopefully improve the photo quality of that camera, especially in low light conditions.

It’s also worth noting that earlier today Ming-Chi Kuo also reported that Apple is indeed developing satellite communications for the iPhone 14 / Pro series and has completed hardware testing for this feature prior to mass production, but whether or not the iPhone 14 / Pro series supports satellite communications depends on “whether Apple and the carriers can work out the business model. “The problem. Its earlier revelations suggest that Apple’s next-generation A16 chip will be dedicated to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, with the iPhone 14 still equipped with an A15 processor.

Apple’s fall event will be held at 1 a.m. Beijing time on September 8, when the new iPhone 14 series will be officially unveiled.

Apple is indeed developing satellite communications for the iPhone 14 / Pro series and has completed hardware testing for the feature before mass production, according to Tianfeng International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

The increasing frequency of natural disasters and geopolitical conflicts in recent years could make emergency SMS/voice services via satellite communications a must-have feature for smartphones.

Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple has hardware support for satellite connectivity, but whether the iPhone 14 / Pro series supports satellite communications depends on “whether Apple and the carriers can work out a business model. Apple’s iPhone 13 / Proline also has satellite hardware, but not connectivity because “the business model has not been negotiated.

It’s hard to predict exactly when the iPhone will offer satellite communications, but Kuo believes it will happen eventually, and the carrier most likely to partner with Apple for satellite communications is Globalstar.

Apple announced that it will hold a special “Far Out” event at 1 a.m. Beijing time on September 8. The event will still be held online and is expected to bring new products such as the iPhone 14 / Pro series, Apple Watch Series 8, and the launch of iOS 16.

A week before the launch of the iPhone 14 Pro, there were rumors that the smartphone would come with a new 30W charger. Twitter user DuanRui posted that the iPhone 14 Pro series may natively support 30W charging power as a charger brand started sending “new charger products” to the press, and will be advertised in an iPhone 14 series experience video.”

He also said that “the charger manufacturer is still offering a Lightning connector for the cable” after it was revealed that Apple plans to change the phone’s port to USB-C in the iPhone 15 series in 2023.

In March, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo posted that “Apple could release its next-generation GaN charger in 2022 with 30W support and a new form factor.”

Apple has previously released a new 35W GaN charger for the redesigned M2 MacBook Air, and the iPhone 14 Pro is expected to support faster-charging capabilities.

Twitter user Kioriku thinks the next iPhone will support 30W charging, with “charging cycles starting at 30W or higher” and then “dropping to 27-25W.”

Apple’s first GaN charger, to be released in 2021, is a 140W USB-C power adapter for the new 16-inch MacBook Pro. GaN technology enables smaller, lighter and more energy-efficient chargers than silicon-based chargers.

Apple has been changing the functionality of its adapters almost every year. For example, the iPhone 11 Pro supports the 18W charger, the iPhone 12 Pro supports the new 20W adapter, and now there are rumors that the iPhone 14 Pro will support the GaN 30W charger, but of course, users will have to purchase the charger separately.
