The taskbar is one of the biggest new features added to Android for foldable devices and tablets, and in the first developer preview of Android 14, Google is tweaking it to show the app name below the app icon.

When switching to the tablet DPI (600+) on the first Android 14 Developer Preview, the taskbar now displays the name of the app below the app icon, which was not the default appearance of the taskbar before.

Android 13 QPR2, which is currently in beta, changes the way the taskbar works. Instead of being a constantly visible bar, the taskbar will only show up when you swipe up, which Google calls the “momentary taskbar” and should be familiar to anyone who has used an iPad in recent years.

In the latest Android 14, the “momentary taskbar” is still present, but text labels have been added to the taskbar for each application.

Google today released the first developer preview version of Android 14, in this preview version, Google provides a feature called “clone app”, that is, users can copy an application to achieve the application double open.

Some Chinese Android systems already support double-opening of apps, and in Android 14 Developer Preview 1, Google is also offering an official clone app feature that allows users to select the Android app they want to copy from the new “Cloned apps” menu (see image below).

It is worth noting that not all applications can be cloned, and Google and other manufacturers of Android 14 devices are able to specify the applications that are not allowed to be cloned. In the case of the Pixel phones, Google prevents many of its own applications from being cloned, including media applications such as YouTube and YouTube Music, as follows.

Many phones already support dual SIM card functions, but users need to manually choose which SIM card to use for mobile data. But in Android 14, Google added the ability for dual SIMs to automatically switch to using mobile data with the best signal.

In the latest Android 14 developer preview released today, a new feature is available in the SIM card settings that allow users’ phones to automatically switch between two SIM cards based on “better call and Internet availability”.

The feature will allow users to designate a second SIM as a backup to use when their primary SIM doesn’t have a good network signal, and Android will automatically switch mobile data usage to the second SIM.

This new auto-switching feature saves time for users, and it’s worth mentioning that this feature doesn’t need to be manually enabled, and it’s available on Android 14 Developer Preview 1 when there are two SIM cards (physical or eSIM) Effective immediately.
