Attached is the AMD Adrenalin Edition technical preview graphics driver 23.30.01.02 version update content as follows:

AFMF can be globally enabled for any DirectX 11 and 12 game using HYPR-RX or the AMD Fluid Motion Toggle.

Because AFMF may introduce additional latency into the game, AFMF may not provide the best experience in fast-paced competitive games. Players can disable AFMF in individual game settings.

AFMF may introduce additional latency in games and is recommended to be used in conjunction with AMD Radeon Anti-Lag / Anti-Lag+ for the best experience.

The AFMF Technology Preview currently requires the game to run in full-screen mode with VSYNC disabled. For the best experience, it is recommended to use AFMF on AMD FreeSync monitors.

AFMF has an activity monitor similar to AMD Radeon Super Resolution, and frame generation status can be confirmed using AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition's in-game overlay (use the default hotkey Alt-R for full-screen overlay, or Alt-Z for sidebar overlay )

AFMF works on 1080P monitors with a minimum of 55FPS, and 70 FPS 1440P and higher resolution monitors are recommended.

AFMF adds frame generation technology to improve FPS outside of the game engine. To view the resulting FPS, use the AMD Software Performance Metrics Overlay, third-party performance monitoring tools are not currently supported.

AFMF is a frame generator similar to NVIDIA’s DLSS3 image sampling technology used to increase FPS. Unlike DLSS3, which is only available for RTX 40 series graphics cards, AMD recently released a new Adrenalin Edition preview driver that enables AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) frame generation technology support for RX 6000 series graphics cards.

AMD today released a new Adrenalin Edition preview driver, enabling AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) frame generation technology support for RX 6000 series graphics cards. This technology initially only supports RX 7000 series graphics cards. , but after strong requests from users of older AMD graphics cards, the company made AFMF downwardly compatible with previous generation graphics cards.

AFMF is a new driver-level frame generation technology from AMD that allows any supported GPU to use frame generation in any DX11 or DX12 game, improving FPS while maintaining image quality, giving players a smoother gaming experience. This feature is very different from FSR 3 frame generation because AFMF is implemented at the driver level and cannot use motion vectors to maintain high image quality like DLSS 3 / FSR 3 frame generation. Instead, FSR 3 frame generation is implemented at the game engine level, enabling it to use motion vectors to provide a better visual experience.

It is noted that unlike Nvidia’s DLSS 3 technology, AMD’s modern GPU architecture can run AFMF (or FSR 3) because AMD’s frame generation technology does not require specialized hardware to run. For FSR 3, AMD officially supports all AMD GPUs starting from the RX 5000 series, so RDNA1 users may also receive AFMF support in the future. FSR 3 and AFMF are almost identical technologies, the only difference between them is the way they are implemented.

Technically, FSR 3 can run on any GPU that supports asynchronous compute, but AMD says you may not get the best experience with an older or slower GPU than the RX 5000 series or RTX 20 series. This is because AMD’s frame generation technology requires computational headroom in order to deliver a frame rate boost. Therefore, it is speculated that graphics cards below the RX 5000 series may not support AFMF technology.

After being abandoned for more than two months, AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards can finally use a new driver. In keeping with its promise, AMD has launched the Adrenalin Edition 23.2.1 driver for this series of graphics cards. However, the driver is not only for the RX 6000 series but also supports the RX 7000 series and RX 400 series and later GPUs.

The Adrenalin Edition 23.2.1 driver brings official support for Forspoken and Dead Space. Of course, there are performance improvements too, with AMD claiming that the Adrenalin Edition 23.2.1 driver offers up to a 7% boost in 4K performance on Forspoken compared to the previous Adrenalin Edition driver, which was released in December 2022. It is also as high as 4% in Legacy of Watts, and the performance improvement in “F1 2022” is as high as 19%.

In addition, AMD is focusing more on Vulkan in this version of the driver, and also added support for the REE compiler using the MLIR interface on Vulkan and several Vulkan extensions.

Additionally, users of the Radeon RX 6900 series are finally getting some of the features that users of the Radeon RX 7900 series have been enjoying, with AMD providing H.264 and H.265 streaming optimization on the Adrenalin Edition 23.2. An update was made.

The latest version of OBS Studio will come with an optimized encoder modeled for AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 and RX 7000 series graphics cards. In addition, the software brings AV1 encoding acceleration support to the latter.

The Adrenalin Edition 23.2.1 driver also fixes many problems, such as the performance degradation of “Fortress Night” and the lagging problem of “Sea of Thieves”. However, some known bugs still exist. For example, the high standby power of Radeon RX 7000-series graphics cards associated with high-resolution and high-refresh-rate displays remains. Additionally, some users may still experience slow performance on VR games or applications.
