Testing AMD FSR 2 with 3DMark

3DMark’s many tests can be specialized for different specific technologies, and this new test will help you evaluate AMD FSR 2.2, the latest version of AMD FSR 2 technology.

According to reports, the FSR 2.2 update can enhance the quality of enlarged images by reducing “high speed” ghosting and improving temporal stability. This feature test allows you to compare the performance and image quality between AMD FSR 2 technology and native rendering using Temporal Anti-Aliasing (TAA).

The AMD FSR feature test within 3DMark is based on a modified version of the 3DMark Speed Way benchmark with DirectX 12 Ultimate features (such as ray tracing) disabled so that it is compatible with a wide range of graphics cards that support AMD FSR 2 technology.

Before testing, you can set the output resolution you want and the picture quality mode of AMD FSR 2 – “Quality”, “Balanced”, “Performance” and “Super Performance” Ultra Performance)”.

The Speed Way scene was then rendered at native resolution TAA to get a baseline performance without FSR turned on.

Finally, the scene is rendered at a lower resolution (determined by the selected AMD FSR quality mode) and upscaled to the output resolution. The results provide FPS per execution, so you can see how AMD FSR 2 technology improves performance compared to native resolution TAA on the card under test.

3DMark’s AMD FSR feature test also includes a built-in frame inspection tool that compares the image quality of AMD FSR 2 technology and native rendering using TAA in an interactive side-by-side comparison.

This test feature generates a series of side-by-side frames in the selected AMD FSR 2 quality mode under the same Speed Way scene.

In addition, the feature can pan and zoom in on the image to see the difference between native TAA and AMD FSR 2.2 output in more detail, and all frame images are stored in a temporary folder, so if the user needs to Save it.
3DMark’s AMD FSR feature tests compatibility

3DMark’s AMD FSR feature test is a free update for 3DMark Advanced (Steam link attached) and 3DMark Advanced.

It is worth mentioning that if you have purchased 3DMark Premium before October 12, 2022, you will need to purchase the Speed Way upgrade to unlock the AMD FSR feature test.
