ASUS has released the ASUS X670 / B650 1003 Beta BIOS update in the forums, bringing various feature updates such as support for non-binary DDR5 memory like 24/48GB.

First of all, these are test BIOSes and are not intended for public use. Therefore, there is no reason to try these new BIOSes right away unless absolutely necessary (e.g. you have already purchased 24/48GB RAM), and we strongly recommend you to wait for the official release before updating.

Shamino, ASUS’ in-house overclocking guru, has confirmed that the first batch of BIOS for AMD 600 series is now available. The firmware will enable 24GB and 48GB non-binary DDR5 memory support on AMD 600 series platforms, and has been confirmed by ASUS staff earlier this week.

As of now, the new BIOS support includes eight X670E and one B650 motherboard, such as the ROG Strix, Crosshair and Creator motherboards are available, but no other series are mentioned.

AMD Ryzen 7000 series desktop processors and X670 / X670E chipset motherboards have also discouraged many die-hard fans due to their high launch pricing and support for only next-generation DDR5 memory. However, consumers who are familiar with the laws of the DIY market in recent years are obviously looking forward to the red team’s mid-range B650 / B650E product line. On Saturday, @Momomo_us posted a screenshot on Twitter showing the initial offer for the B650 motherboard from US retailer B&H, which can be seen as “only” $199 (about 1416 RMB).

The price of the first batch of X670 / X670E chipset motherboards is often more than $300 (2000+ RMB).

Coupled with high-end DDR5 memory kits, the cost of DIY a new Ryzen 7000 series AM5 host is significantly higher than the previous generation of mature Ryzen 5000 series AM4 processors + 500 series motherboards.

The good news is that with the official arrival of the B650/B650E motherboards in a few days, mainstream and budget-level gamers pursuing the new platform can expect to assemble a set of Ryzen 7000 series AM5 desktops at a lower cost.

Of course, if you are not in a hurry to upgrade at all, then referring to AMD’s practice, the price/performance ratio after a year and a half will be more prominent (especially the price of DDR5 memory is also dropping all the way).

Here’s B&H’s lineup of MSI B650 debut motherboards:

MSI MPG B650 Carbon WIFI ($329.99 / about 2348 RMB)

MSI MPG B650 EDGE WIFI ($289.99 / about 2064 RMB)

MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WIFI ($259.00 / about 1843 RMB)

MSI MPG B650I EDGE WIFI ($239.99 / about 1708 RMB)

MSI MAG B650M Mortar WIFI ($239.99 / 1708 RMB)

MSI PRO B650-P WIFI ($219.99 / about 1565 RMB)

MSI PRO B650M-A WIFI ($199.99 / about 1423 RMB)

Rumor has it that AMD motherboard makers are expected to offer a more affordable B650 SKU. For users who can’t use PCIe 5.0 x16 graphics cards / Gen 5 M.2 SSDs for the time being, motherboards as low as $125 (about 890 RMB) will be more attractive.

In addition, retailers such as Microcenter are also trying to reduce the starting cost of the Ryzen 7000 series AM5 desktop platform through motherboard + CPU (or EXPO DDR5 memory) packages.
