Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon’s cloud service, announced at the re:Invent global conference that BYD has selected AWS as the preferred cloud provider (overseas) for its connected car platform. AWS will provide a “scalable, reliable and secure foundation” for BYD’s core operations, including storing vehicle system data.

It is noted that BYD has used Amazon EKS and content distribution network service Amazon CloudFront to build a connected vehicle architecture that can automatically deploy new functions and applications, including the latest in-vehicle navigation and infotainment services, providing high-performance, interactive Real-time in-car experience.

By running its connected vehicle platform on AWS, BYD provides automatic updates to improve vehicle safety, operation, maintenance efficiency and the overall driving experience. Through the app, owners can monitor the status of their vehicle, including battery level and mileage, remotely lock and unlock doors and windows, and locate the vehicle in the parking lot.

BYD is also leveraging Amazon to deliver in-car audio experiences, with its connected vehicles in Europe now equipped with Amazon Music (standard on new vehicles) to provide high-quality music streaming.

The U.S. Navy on Monday awarded Amazon.com Inc’s cloud computing unit a five-year, $723.9 million enterprise software license contract, Reuters reported.

The blanket purchase agreement for enterprise software licenses provides the Department of the Navy with access to Amazon Web Services’ commercial cloud environment, AWS Professional Services and AWS training and certification courses. The contract runs for up to five years, from December 2022 to December 2028.

Earlier this month, the Pentagon awarded $9 billion worth of cloud contracts to Google, AWS, Microsoft Corp. and Oracle Corp. as part of the Joint Warfighting Cloud Capabilities contract.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud computing department is vigorously developing and developing custom CPU solutions based on ARM architecture to better meet the diverse challenges raised by enterprise customers. At its re:Invent conference today, Amazon has developed a new custom CPU for high-performance computing (HPC) workloads, called the Graviton3E.

Given that HPC workloads require higher bandwidth, wider data paths, and data types spanning multiple dimensions, AWS redesigned the Graviton3 processor and enhanced its vector processing capabilities under the new name Graviton3E. This CPU promises up to a 35% performance boost in workloads that rely on heavy vector processing.

In the AWS EC2 instance type, the chip can provide up to 64 vCPU cores and 128 GiB of memory. AWS says the enhanced chip will be available in C7gn and Hpc7g instances. These instances offer 200Gbps of dedicated network bandwidth, optimized for traffic between instances in the same VPC.
