San Jose-based Frore Systems recently launched its AirJet active cooling chip, which claims to increase device performance up to two times while running silently.

The AirJet chip is designed to solve the cooling problems that limit CPU performance in today’s laptops, a so-called “solid-state cooling solution” that completely eliminates the traditional fan cooling method, according to the company. The company said, “Inside the AirJet are tiny membranes that vibrate at ultrasonic frequencies, and these membranes create a powerful airflow that enters the AirJet through the top vents and removes heat from a separate vent.”

In addition, depending on the laptop product, the AirJet chip promises to produce only about 24 to 29 decibels of noise, which is softer than a whisper. Most importantly, the AirJet chip is only about 2.8 mm thick, which can help reduce the thickness of notebook computers.

Frore Systems says the AirJet chip will make its debut in an actual product sometime in 2023. The company plans to demonstrate the technology at CES 2023, and we can expect to see a real-life demo in a few days, so we can look forward to that.

Frore Systems also told PCMag that the AirJet is currently best suited for mobile computing, including laptops, gaming smartphones and tablets, with expansion to other platforms being considered in the future.

Frore Systems’ AirJet chips come in two models: the AirJet Mini, designed for fanless and thin laptops, is now shipping; the AirJet Pro chip, designed for larger laptops with more processing power and even handheld gaming systems, will ship in the first quarter of 2023.

The AirJet Mini can consume 5.25W at 1W and produces only 21 dB of noise for 13-inch laptops and 10-inch tablets, while the AirJet Pro can consume 10.5W at 1.75W and produces only 24 dB of noise for 15-inch laptops.

The company currently has the support of Qualcomm, Intel, GiS and other major mainstream manufacturers, and Intel also plans to use AirJet in future Evo standard notebooks.

Josh Newman, vice president of mobile innovation at Intel, added in a statement, “Frore Systems’ AirJet technology offers a new approach, and Intel is excited about working with Frore Systems to prepare their technology for future Intel Evo laptops.”
