Airbus is preparing for further delays in the delivery of some of its medium-range aircraft in 2023, three industry sources said, according to Reuters. The company is working to meet its 2022 delivery target despite supply chain and labor issues.

The sources added that the slowdown was taken because of continued uncertainty about the availability of engines and other parts and labor needed to produce the new aircraft.

A spokeswoman for Airbus said the company would not comment on deliveries until its next monthly announcement in early December.

Analysts point out that the aerospace industry is grappling with a series of simultaneous problems that have multiple ripple effects.

In July, Airbus said it would meet an interim production target of 65 A320-series narrow-body jets per month by early 2024, rather than by summer 2023. the target for 2025 is 75 per month.

Airbus plans to ramp up production next year despite continued supply chain disruptions, according to the Wall Street Journal. Airbus is now extending its lead over rival Boeing in the key market for small jets.

Airbus confirmed plans to increase production of A320s to 65 aircraft per month by early 2024 from about 50 at the end of this year, one of the fastest production increases in the company’s history.

The move comes as demand for the Airbus A320 narrow-body family of aircraft outpaces the Boeing 737 MAX and both aircraft manufacturers grapple with ongoing supply chain issues, the U.S. media noted.

Despite supplier delays, Airbus is sticking to its goal of delivering 700 commercial aircraft this year, and it had delivered 437 aircraft to customers by the end of September and needs to deliver 263 in the last three months of the year.

Airbus has now announced the latest milestone in A350 deliveries: the 500th A350 aircraft will be delivered by the end of September 2022. The Airbus A350 family of aircraft has now been delivered to 39 airlines, flying more than 900 routes worldwide.

The A350-900 was recently delivered to Iberia, which has ordered 20 A350s, 14 of which are already in operation, Airbus said. The A350 family of aircraft now includes the A350-900, A350-1000 and the new A350F freighter.

According to Airbus, the A350 offers better performance compared to its predecessor, with 25 percent lower fuel consumption and CO2 and a 50 percent lower noise footprint.

In addition, the delivery of the 500th A350 marks the unveiling of a new production standard for 2022. This standard brings additional performance and cabin improvements to the A350-900 and A350-1000.

The new production standard offers a weight reduction of up to 1.2 tons compared to the previous standard. Maximum takeoff weight has also been increased by 3 tons, along with an increase in payload. The increased cabin space of the new standard allows airlines to add more than 30 seats to a typical three-stage cabin layout.
