The urban air mobility team of South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group will establish an advanced air mobility ecosystem in Nusantara, the future capital of Indonesia, to jointly promote the local future Air Mobility (AAM, Advanced Air Mobility) business.

According to reports, AAM is a use case that builds on the UAM concept and combines operations in an urban environment, while Urban Air Mobility (UAM) is an ecosystem involving passenger vehicles flying in urban areas.

Comprising more than 18,000 islands, Indonesia has the largest aviation market in Southeast Asia and is known as the best place to build an AAM. Hyundai expects Indonesia’s high-level infrastructure and technology in the aviation industry to help the company develop an ecosystem for AAM, and plans to expand related businesses to the global market after the results are achieved in Indonesia.

According to a memorandum of understanding signed on the sidelines of the B20 summit in Bali on November 14, Hyundai Motor will work with the Capital Office, which is responsible for the management and governance of Nusantara, to introduce AAM as part of the smart mobility ecosystem in the new capital, located on the eastern island of Borneo. coastal.

According to the agreement, the two parties will cooperate on establishing the concept of land-air integration, testing advanced air vehicles, and building related infrastructure and ecosystems.

Earlier this year, the Indonesian government announced a plan to relocate its capital from Jakarta on Java island to Nusantara, a “forest city” on Borneo, spending $33 billion to build the new metropolis, while the entire The relocation project is expected to take nearly a decade.

Hyundai Motor’s aviation subsidiary Supernal demonstrated a concept model of its five-seat electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL) at a trade show in the UK in July this year. They hope to offer electric air mobility products for cargo by 2026 and electric air mobility products for passengers by 2028.

Supernal’s all-electric eVTOL air taxi is designed for intra-city passenger transport, while Hyundai says engineers in South Korea are developing a hydrogen-powered mid-size vehicle for city-to-city freight and passenger transport.

Hyundai said it will develop a roadmap and review ground and AAM concepts while conducting AAM demonstration projects and test flights.
