Oct. 14 (Bloomberg) — South Korean chip company Nextchip plans to launch a new prototype of its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) chip, Apache 6, next year, according to foreign media reports.

The foreign media report said Apache 6 is the successor to Apache 5 and will be built using Samsung’s 14-nanometer technology to support Level 3 autonomous driving.

Early last December, it was reported that Nextchip completed the development of its final prototype of the Apache 5, an artificial intelligence (AI)-based ADAS chip.

Apache 5 is a SoC that combines a CPU, an image signal processor and ADAS algorithms, with an internal neural processing unit that can run CNN algorithms, and will also be built on Samsung’s foundry’s 14nm process node.

Founded in 1997, Nextchip specializes in the design of semiconductors for video security systems, featuring core semiconductors in the CCTV monitor, DVR, and SoC product lines, rather than just semiconductors for one part of the surveillance system.
