The UBT-m XP is an ultra-wideband transceiver with an integrated modem and duplexer, offering best-in-class energy efficiency with twice the industry average transmit power. In recent tests, Nokia demonstrated a 12km link using the UBT-m XP and SteadEband antenna.

Nokia also announced the Outdoor Channel Aggregator (OCA) to support mobile operators looking to increase network coverage and capacity for rural broadband applications. The OCA aggregates multiple UBT-T XP transceivers to support a high-capacity, high-power, outdoor dual-band radio, allowing increased throughput and up to 10dB improvement in system gain compared to traditional aggregation methods. This is important for increasing link distance or optimizing OPEX/CAPEX by eliminating the need for larger antenna or repeater systems.

Nokia has also introduced a Carrier Aggregation High Density (CAHD) card, which adds “single-pipe” capacity to the backhaul to support link distances. The innovative CAHD module enables 10Gbps backhaul capacity over multiple lanes and supports seamless migration from existing low-capacity backhaul lines to high-capacity, protecting operator investment.

Nokia’s “Simplified RAN Transport” solution optimizes radio access base stations and microwave radio transmission hardware to a minimum. This provides enhanced maintainability and operability without the need for dedicated in-house microwave equipment. Nokia’s solution saves 30% more energy than traditional microwave site solutions due to the reduced number of units and cooling requirements. Plus, it lowers TCO and reduces site footprint.

Nokia’s comprehensive Wavence portfolio offers complete microwave solutions for all use cases, covering short-haul, long-haul, E-Band and SDN-based management for mobile operators and enterprises. Its zero-footprint implementation for all-outdoor architectures can directly integrate with RAN and IP devices with common management capabilities. This helps reduce network energy consumption across the board, and its software features and automation help achieve further energy-saving goals.

The high-capacity E-band market is expected to grow by more than 60% by 2023, according to the latest forecast from Sky Light Research. Nokia’s latest products answer that call, but with the added benefit of high power and energy efficiency. Sustainability and power metrics also remain ahead.
