Street Fighter 6 will be officially released on June 2, the major media reviews have been unblocked. The results show that this Capcom game is very well received, and Street Fighter 6 is one of the most well-received games of the year on both Metacritic and Opencritic, two game rating sites.
Street Fighter 6 is the latest entry in Capcom’s classic fighting game series and one of the most anticipated games of the year. Capcom calls Street Fighter 6 “the new era of fighting games in 2023”, blending elements from the past and present. The game takes place after Street Fighter 3 and offers players three game modes with vibrant colorful graphics and great combat feel.
According to Metacritic, Street Fighter, 6 score is 92 points (PS5 version), a total of 66 media included, ranked fourth of the year. In front of Street Fighter 6 are The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Realm, Galaxy Warriors: Remastered and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition. Street Fighter 6, on the other hand, outperformed big titles such as Resident Evil 4 Remake, Hogwarts: Legacy and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. With this high score, Street Fighter 6 received a “must play” certification, the second time this year that Capcom has received this honor, previously for the Resident Evil 4 remake.
IGN gave it a 9 out of 10, saying that the Street Fighter series has always been the benchmark for the 2D fighting game genre, but Street Fighter 6 feels extra special. In terms of fighting mechanics, the addition of the ‘Fighting’ system is memorable, acting like a Swiss Army knife and providing a variety of options for making decisions and managing resources in each round of your match. Street Fighter 6 features the best lineup of debut characters ever and, after three beta tests, online battles that are by far impeccable, along with the richest little details of any generation. Whether you’re new to fighting games or a seasoned veteran, Street Fighter 6 is a must-play.
On Opencritic, Street Fighter 6 is ranked third for the year. The game has an overall score of 92, with 98% of reviewers recommending the game, thus earning it a “Mighty” certification. Still leading the charts is Kingdom Tears, which set a record for the highest rating ever, followed by Resident Evil 4 Remastered. Street Fighter 6, meanwhile, surpassed some of this year’s other notable games, such as Hi-Fi RUSH, Dead Space Remastered and Octagon 2, as well as the highly anticipated Diablo 4, which will be released in early June.
