Stellantis and Ford Firing Another 1,250 Employees Due to UAW Strike

According to Reuters reports, Chrysler’s parent company Stellantis and Ford Motor said they will temporarily lay off 1,250 employees due to the impact of the United Auto Workers (UAW) strike.

Stellantis announced 700 layoffs at two Indiana plants on Friday and later said the company is now temporarily laying off 1,340 employees in three states due to a four-week strike.

Ford said the company is temporarily laying off another 550 employees following UAW strikes at its Kentucky truck plant and Chicago assembly plant.

Starting Monday, Ford will lay off about 300 employees at a transmission plant in Ohio, about 250 at four plants in Michigan, and 12 at its Chicago plant. In all, Ford has laid off 2,480 employees since the strike began on September 15th.

Ford noted that the strike at the Kentucky truck plant could affect more than a dozen plants.

More than 34,000 UAW workers at the Detroit Three are known to be on strike. GM has about 2,300 employees in temporary layoff status.
