Steam now officially supports the classic handles available to Nintendo Switch Online members, including the classic NES, SNES, Nintendo 64 and Mega Drive / Genesis handles.
A patch for the July 27 version of the Steam client says it “adds support for Nintendo Online classic grips.” A Valve spokesperson confirmed to The Verge that this support specifically refers to the NES (FC Red and White), SNES, N64, and Mega Drive handles.
The Switch Online NES handle was launched in 2018, the SNES handle in 2019, and the N64 and Mega Drive handles in 2021, all classic replicas of Nintendo’s previous game console handles.
However, these handles have fewer buttons than today’s typical handles (such as the Xbox or PlayStation handles) and are best used to play smaller indie games or retro game compilations.
