South Korea asked Apple to submit report on the iPhone 12 radiation situation issue

According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea’s Ministry of Science, Technology, Information and Communications announced today that it will re-verify whether the iPhone 12, which has been suspended from sales in France due to excessive radiation, meets local standards, and requires Apple to investigate the radiation issues of the iPhone 12 model. Submit status report.

On September 12, the French Radio Authority inspected the electromagnetic radiation of 141 phones circulating on the market and found that the electromagnetic radiation specific absorption rate (SAR) of iPhone 12 reached 5.74 W/kg (Note: EU Standard is 4 W/kg), therefore the product is required to stop sales and Apple is ordered to correct the problems of the products sold.

According to Apple’s official data, the electromagnetic radiation-specific absorption rate of the iPhone 12 is approximately in the range of 1.6~2.0W/kg. For comparison, the maximum SAR value of the iPhone 15 Pro Max is 2.0W/kg (only one model).

South Korea’s Ministry of Science, Technology, Information and Communications said, “All phones currently sold in South Korea, including the iPhone 12, are products that comply with international standards related to electromagnetic wave safety and have obtained compliance certification.”

“However, in order to alleviate public anxiety about this issue, upon hearing about the matter on the 13th, we immediately requested the manufacturer, Apple, to report the situation in accordance with Article 58-11 (Reporting of Non-Conformity) of the Radio Wave Act.”

“In the future, we will ensure precise verification of the four iPhone12 models (iPhone12, iPhone12 Pro, iPhone12 Mini, iPhone12 Pro Max).”

If the results of this verification show that the radiation value of the phone exceeds normal standards, South Korea’s Ministry of Science and Technology will order Apple to make corrections and decide to stop importing and selling the iPhone 12.
