Sources say Tesla will open Supercharger stations to non-Tesla cars in the U.S. at the end of the year

According to a recently disclosed White House memo, Tesla plans to open its Supercharger network to non-Tesla electric vehicles in the U.S. by the end of 2022. Tesla is already piloting in several major cities in Europe, but there has never been a clear response as to when U.S. Superchargers will be open to non-Tesla owners.

InsideEVs Media released this memo on June 28 that these electric vehicle owners could be using superchargers as early as the end of this year. “Later this year, Tesla will begin production of a new supercharger unit that will enable non-Tesla EV drivers in North America to use a Tesla supercharger,” the White House said.

Tesla did not respond to an email requesting confirmation of those plans (Elon Musk disbanded the company’s public relations office in 2019). It’s unclear whether the White House intended to copy Tesla’s own statements about the program. Musk is extremely hostile to President Joe Biden, who has purposely avoided mentioning Tesla when touting the auto industry’s electrification plans.
