Sony PSVR2 is not compatible with PSVR1 games

Speaking on the PlayStation Blog podcast, Senior Vice President of Platform Experience Hideaki Nishino confirmed that PSVR2 is not compatible with PSVR1 games as PSVR2 is “designed to present a truly next-generation VR experience”. “PSVR2 has more advanced features such as a new controller with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, inside-out tracking in the headset, eye-tracking, 3D audio and more.

So that means developing PSVR 2 requires a completely different approach to the original PSVR.”

There doesn’t seem to be any technical reason why PSVR games can’t be ported to PSVR 2, but it remains to be seen how many developers will be willing to port PSVR 1 games to PSVR.

PlayStation VR 2 is scheduled to be released in early 2023. Sony said earlier this year that they had more than 20 games ready for the PlayStation VR 2’s debut.
