According to the Japanese media jisakuhibi reported that when using the PlayStation 5’s variable refresh rate synchronization function (VRR), temporary flicker and display panel burn-in may occur, it is recommended to disable the VRR function before the PS5 firmware update.
Even Sony’s own gaming monitor, the INZONE M9, is reported to be in the same situation, and a video of it has now been posted online.
The problem can be reproduced in “Marvel’s Spider-Man”, “Ricky and Tinker Bell: Time Skip”, players need to set the screen to “Faithfulness (quality priority)” or “Performance RT”, and play a few minutes of the game may appear.
If the flickering occurs when playing with VRR enabled on PS5, it will not improve even if the player “quits the game”, “restarts the monitor’s power”, “initializes the monitor’s OSD settings”, etc. etc., the symptom will not improve. Players need to turn on the monitor with the VRR turned off, and the symptoms will gradually disappear over time.
In addition, once flickering occurs, it will continue even if the player changes the video input to the Windows PC’s DisplayPort (VRR sync is turned off). The period of flickering depends on the screen refresh rate and can also lead to screen burn-in, which is when a residual image of the previous screen stays on the screen.
