Sony’s PlayStation Stars program is a free loyalty program that lets players earn points, buy products and unlock collectibles by purchasing and playing PlayStation games. These collectibles are game-themed digital items that showcase players’ preferences and achievements. However, the program is currently only accessible through Sony’s PlayStation App, inconveniencing players.
However, according to gaming website TwistedVoxel, Sony is about to integrate the PlayStation Stars feature directly into the PS5 console in a new PS5 update. This will allow gamers to access and share their PlayStation Stars levels and collectibles directly on their console without the need for a mobile app, one of the promises Sony made last year.
It is noted that players can customize the information they want to share with others in the PS5’s privacy settings menu. For example, they can choose to share their PlayStation Stars rating, or show off the collectables that they’ve earned by participating in different activities.PlayStation Plus members can also earn extra points by purchasing games through the PlayStation Online Store.
To protect the privacy of underage players, or to avoid showing younger players collectibles that may not be appropriate for them, these options are only available to adult user accounts in PlayStation Stars-providing regions.
Sony’s integration of the PlayStation Stars feature directly into the PS5 console is a smart move that may increase player interest in this often-overlooked loyalty program. However, it remains to be seen if it will get players to complete some of the tougher challenges in order to show off their unlocked collectibles.
