Sony NW-A306 Walkman: Lightweight design, great sound and great battery life

Sony recently launched the NW-A306 as a cheaper alternative to the NW-ZX707 model. The NW-ZX707 measures 72.5 x 132.3 x 16.9 mm and weighs 227 grams. In comparison, the NW-A306 weighs around 56.5 x 98 x 11.8mm and 113 grams.

The NW-A306 also retains its predecessor’s 3.6-inch display, which is 1.4 inches smaller than the NW-ZX707’s. Both displays have a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels, though, meaning the cheaper NW-A306 offers a sharper display than its more expensive sibling.

Even better, the NW-A306 offers long battery life, with up to 32 hours of playback in 96 kHz FLAC recordings. In addition, the NW-A306 can play up to 36 hours when playing 128 kbps MP3 files, but up to 14 hours when playing DSD files (11.2896 MHz / 1 bit).

The NW-A306 will be launched in Japan first, with a starting price of 46,000 yen for the 32 GB storage version and 57,000 yen for the 64 GB version. However, Sony plans to sell only the 32GB version in the UK and Europe, offering black and blue color schemes, priced at £349 and €399, respectively.
