Sony launched a loyalty program for PlayStation players to get points for gifts

PlayStation Stars, Sony’s new loyalty program for PlayStation gamers, is now available in the Americas, including the United States. Adult gamers registered with PlayStation Network can join the program for free by signing up on the PlayStation Star website or in the PlayStation app.

The site said it would wait up to 2 months for review after receiving applications from players to register. But editors at foreign tech outlet The Verge signed up for the service a few hours ago and it has now been reviewed and approved.

When you join Stars, you’ll see a new icon near your profile avatar and a name in a tab on the far left of the PlayStation app. Click on the icon to see your rank as well as the available events and rewards and collections you already own.

After joining Stars, players can participate in four different activities, such as needing to play any PS4 or PS5 game to earn digital collectibles (Sony emphasizes that this is not NFT), which you can display in a virtual display case.

Another activity lets you earn 50 points for buying one of a series of games on the PlayStation Store, kind of like the gold points you can earn for buying games on Nintendo’s eShop. Points can be used for other digital collectibles, PlayStation Store points, and even some games like Cult of the Lamb, it Takes Two, and Hades. But you have to earn a lot of points to get bigger prizes; a $20 store credit costs 5,000 points, and the most expensive reward by far, the Quarry requires a whopping 17,500 points.
