Sony Semiconductor Solutions (SSS) issued a press release today, announcing the signing of a strategic collaboration framework with Raspberry Pi, holding a minority stake in the latter, and jointly developing edge artificial intelligence (Edge AI) solutions.
Sony’s press release is as follows: “Through this strategic investment, the companies strengthen their relationship with each other and provide the global Raspberry Pi community with a development platform based on SSS edge artificial intelligence solutions.”
The two parties will jointly develop and advance AITRIOS, an AI-based sensing platform that serves as an “edge” between data and the cloud.
The exact size of the investment was not disclosed, but Raspberry Pi co-founder and CEO Eben Upton said a similar amount would be raised in 2021 when it raised $45 million.
