A few days ago Sony Honda Mobility Inc. a new electric vehicle company came into existence. This company came into existence in the form of a partnership between Sony and Honda. This is a strategic partnership that’ll help introduce Sony into the automobile industry. It’ll as well help Honda take a deeper plunge into electrification of its cars, which will go on sale in 2025.
What can consumers expect from this partnership? Sony via a press release made mention of what the two parties will bring to the table. We can expect Honda’s cutting-edge environmental and safety technology, manufacturing technology and after-sale experience. From Sony’s side, this partnership will showcase expertise in the development and application of imaging, sensing, telecommunication, network, and entertainment technology.
This partnership will aim to introduce a new generation of mobility services that are not only user-friendly but also environment-friendly. Plans are that this investment or partnership will take ground in Tokyo, Japan. The total capital this venture brings to bear amounts to 10 billion yen (~$74.4 million). The ratio of investment will be split equally between the two parties, with each side holding 50% ownership.
In recent years, we have seen a gradual shift to electric vehicles. Most manufacturing companies already have fleets of electric vehicles on sale in the automobile market. Honda on its part hasn’t been outgoing regarding electric vehicles, with only one electric model to its name.
